Ultimately if you wanted to sign somebody so badly you wouldn't have them on trial in the first place.

Absolutely that. Think ultimately his profile is far too similar to Clayton, when our bigger priorities are right sided centre halves with more height.

Yet FGR seem in decline and have no manager. Maybe it wasn’t a choice for him. Maybe it was his only option.

I’m really not fussed that we’ve potentially missed out on another left footed centre half.

Same. The qualities he had, we already have in Clayton and FBT.

Its just unfortunate it happens against the backdrop of not a lot of positive transfer movement for the club. Outside shifting Iandolo which is a big positive.

This is fair, but profile wise that kind of player would be good - physical but not totally lumpen centre back, experience getting promoted out of this division, ideally right footed. Basically the signing Baudry was for Wellens again.

I'd imagine Wrexham, Stockport, Gillingham and maybe Notts County are pushing League Two wages higher than they were last year, which will make it difficult to get value for money, especially when we really only need 3/4 key players to complete the first 11.

I'm not panicking yet, a couple of signings in the next week or two and we will be fine, and hopefully this new coaching set-up can get a tune out of players already contracted, as there's potential there.

Flynn and Graham Coughlan at Newport have already come out and basically said that wages at the current level have been pushed up 'artificially'. If we hold our nerve then in theory we get better value for money.

As with anything at STFC, things we do appear to be glacially slow. The off-field announcements yesterday show that the club have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to reorganise the academy and first team structure, which hopefully is going to be robust and longer term. Surely the same goes for on the pitch. The slight niggle for me is that Flynn has said we probably need to shift players out to bring players in and the only movement has been Iandolo on a nominal fee to Colchester.

I think we are playing a bit of a poker game with our recruitment, I've no doubt we have a long list of players we are targetting, but if they are currently asking for silly money, that's just not going to happen. As we get closer to the start of the season, those demands will have to come down. The Garner season was perhaps a bit of an anomaly but the calibre of player we were able to bring in late in the game was both impressive and a shock.

The Mary Tyler-Moore situation could be down to a multitude of factors, it could well be that he didn't see eye to eye with Ferguson but loved being at FGR, hence him 'choosing' them over us. (there is no evidence we even offered him anything)

I find it doubtful that Michael Flynn would have agreed to do a fan Q&A on the 2nd August if we had no money to bring in any players by then. The fans would be even more revolting than they currently are.

Ah, that’s what must have tempted him back to FGR!

Apologies for going slightly off topic, but I've seen a number of fans moaning that the club said they would do their transfer business earlier this season. I vaguely remember something said but can't seem to find it in the AB minutes. (i've not spent a huge amount of time going through them tbf) The Rob Angus programme notes at the end of last season, said our transfer business would be better but had no reference to a time-frame.

Any ideas?

No idea, but the thing is its not entirely up to the club to do the business early. For all we know Flynn may have identified several targets who are all waiting to see what their options are, are mulling over multiple offers or have a plethora of other reasons why at this stage they are not signing a contract anywhere.

Is it ideal, nope, but do people want quick signings or the right signings as they are not necessarily the same thing!

program notes in link, but who knows where the 'done early' comes from as he spoke after that didn't he?

I think in the perfect world, all transfers would be done early. Unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world. There is always something going on behind the scenes and we just have to trust.

We are not the only team in the land to delay signings.

Of course he has, and that's why I'm remaining patient to see what happens in the next 3 weeks. The Garner season proved that it's possible to put together a decent squad late in the game. This season we've got more of a crux of the squad. If we can get that solid spine together, we'll be grand.

It is eerily quiet re transfer leaks from the club though isn't it? (that's not a criticism)
