I'd imagine Wrexham, Stockport, Gillingham and maybe Notts County are pushing League Two wages higher than they were last year, which will make it difficult to get value for money, especially when we really only need 3/4 key players to complete the first 11.

I'm not panicking yet, a couple of signings in the next week or two and we will be fine, and hopefully this new coaching set-up can get a tune out of players already contracted, as there's potential there.

Didn’t Flynn say that one signing was imminent?

Looks like lots has been going on behind the scenes on the staff front.

Maybe we simply don’t have the administrative bandwidth to get football business done at the same time.

Well, if we can only sign players if we get shot of those Flynn doesn’t want then I suppose the problem may be nobody wants them. In that case we’re fucked regarding new perm signings.

Even excluding the league 2 big spenders pushing up wages, I can imagine players (and their agents) are wanting wage increases reflecting inflation, which is going though the roof. So even with an increased wage budget over 2 seasons ago, I can see how we could increase the budget yet not have the same quality of players immediately available to us

These clubs paying massive wages should be stopped.

FFP is just that - you spend your match day income- not extra millions put in by sugar daddies.

And yes I would say this even if we had our own sugar daddy- it often goes pear shaped just look at Reading….

I have a feeling Flynn will get more out of the player that were here last season than Lindsey or Morris.

But there’s not FFP in L2. It’s a % of turnover to wages. Higher the T/O, the higher the wages. I’ve got no problem with that.

I'd guess that Reed, Gladwin, Iandolo, Williams* and possibly McKirdy and Frenchie were fairly high earners.

hopefully insurance covered Frenchie mind.

* Williams (+ McKirdy) still on embargo related wages, hence sodding off.

it's not unreasonable to think the wage structure has been reduced over the last season. Though you can't tell how it now relates to other clubs.

Wouldn’t Reed & Gladwin also have been on embargo related wages?
Plus, only Williams & Iandolo from those listed have left in the summer. The rest went last season and we’ve bought players in since then.

So either:

1. Flynn didn’t fancy him
2. We couldn’t agree a deal with him
3. FGR sacked the manager that released him and came back in for him quick like someone mentioned could happen some pages back

Either way, we’ve got Clayton and FBT as left sided CB’s already and linked with 3 other left sided defenders on top (JMT, Demetriou and Revan). That’s very unbalanced if all go through so could be a case of JMT being the one cut or could be a case of us missing out on him. Either way we won’t know unless Flynn tells us or he rocks up on a podcast in 5 years.

When we played Melksham last week, 1st half we played what would be close to a starting XI when the season begins. JMT only played 2nd half along with a bunch of youth teamers who came on. Maybe he didn’t fancy being a squad player and not a guaranteed regular starter. Anyway, he’s just another in a list of ‘what ifs’. We do struggle to get signings over the line for whatever reason and I think it’s that, again, that’s got people twitchy.

Not making signings early out of choice is one thing - getting knocked backed so regularly leaves a bit of a stink.

There’s no doubt that Brewitt impressed more in the first half than JMT did in the second against Melksham.
Clayton looked more impressive and we know FBT’s qualities.
My only concern is them working as a unit. That’s where the experienced CB comes into it.
Someone who can hold the line together and organise better than we had last season.
I’m hoping that the new management structure means we will concede less anyway.

Ultimately if you wanted to sign somebody so badly you wouldn't have them on trial in the first place.

Believe 3 is definitely the main factor, with the addition of him being their club captain and bit of a recent 'legend'. If you're offered similar terms by both FGR and Swindon, add those factors in and you're always likelier to take the FGR offer than Swindon as it's unlikely he'd be coming in as captain.

It would be like Anthony Grant being out of contract at end of 19/20 season. If he's offered similar terms by ourselves and say Bristol Rovers, given his recent history with us and hero status at that point, it probably would have swayed that deal hugely our way.
