It's not, verbally yes everything should be OK but it's not done. Hopefully tomorrow it will be signed

Okay fair enough. I have said that until the contract is signed nothing is set in stone but it does look very promising.

It will simply be does he think he can improve us and fit into the team. Yesterday would have really shocked him i think

For those more tactically aware than oneself. Does CA’s playing style, positional nous and other attributes benefit our current playing style? Or do we have to fundamentally change the way we set up and play? Perhaps more importantly does our current squad fit around him or do we need an injection of new blood to complement him?

I'm going to go on again! Our current style doesn't compliment any player. Maybe Austin comes in and we adapt to him.

It’ll be very interesting to see if Lindsey is able to manage a character like Charlie. Outspoken, confident, proven talent, experienced - if Austin disagrees with Lindsey, he’ll say so. I’m not sure how many of those we have in the changing room at the moment.

That’s what I’m hoping for. You don’t bring in a player like Austin and not set up to suit him, or at least you’d hope not. Any change has to be worth a go at right now

I was thinking the same. Charlie is known to being a strong minded individual and it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in the changing room.

In my opinion it’s probably a lean towards yes for all of the above.

I think Austin’s ability, experience, nous and movement would add to our current team / play
…but…to get the maximum out of Austin & play to his strengths we’d need to change a lot of things about our team. I do think the current squad could be moulded / tweaked to support this but also feel we’d require some new blood as well (in particular a left footed, left sided winger / wide striker)

Like, I fully get we don’t progress forward enough well ever but is that because our midfielders can only play it safe (possibly) or is it a lack of movement and players in space in front of them (also possibly)
If Austin adds the movement would our midfield look for him or still play it safe?….and if it’s the play is safe option, is it because that’s all they are capable of - or - is it our tactics bestowed upon them by our manager.

I'm not excited by Austin at all. His legs are gone. Its not the right move for the club at all.

Hope to be proved wrong.

Does this stop the Jephcott move going through? I certainly don't see the two of them playing together

My thoughts too.

Also agree with the general sentiment that we'd need to change the way we play to suit Charlie. I love him, of course, and it'll be fantastic to see him back with us - hopefully scoring lots of goals - I just look at what happened yesterday and wonder what he'd have done to change what was a spiritless, boring, gutless display.

Maybe that's just it ... he'll bring spirit ... but I don't see Lindsey lasting if we sign Charlie. He's a big personality with great experience and a degree of success at much higher levels than this. I'm not sure I see Lindsey being able to stand up & impose his position with Charlie in the dressing room ... anyway, let's wait and see.
