Season long loans don't exist in reality, all loan contracts have a January recall clause in.  That's been discussed many times before and works both ways.

Last year all of our good loans (Simpson, kkh, crichlow) got recalled and sent to league 1 to either play or sit on the bench or in Simpsons case train with the kids.  The shite or injured ones get sent back (Gilbert) .

Why would this year be any different?

That’s a good point about it working both ways, I hadn’t actually thought of that before. Now I feel like a dur brain.

Not sure keepers are as likely to be moved midseason as outfield players, teams tend to not want to mess with that position if they can help it and if it's really necessary to do so they would probably be a team in the shit anyway so maybe not an ideal change for either Boro or Brynn himself.

Stability is probably better for development in the GK position I'd wager.  Could be way off but that's how I imagine it.

I think that's my view as well. Certainly not no chance of him being recalled to go up a level, but less than there would be for a forward player.

I do also think that last year may have been an extreme example - every single loanee ended up getting recalled, right?

The year before that Sheffield United actively refused to recall Tyler Smith when we were kind of expecting it and had signed Omotoye from memory. Bit of a strange one that.

Depends on Boro doesn’t it.

I mean unless they want him ready to be a championship goal keeper next season - there would be no harm in giving him a full season at L2 then finding him a L1 loan next season…

Although a lot of the examples from last season got recalled went up and level and have gone out on loan again this season anyway.

Like with KKH - I kinda get because he’s done half a season at L2, half a season at L1 and is now in the Championship.

Surely it was reported that Swindon were only allowed to sign month loan agreements last season. Therefore Simpson KKH would go back to their parent club in January and all bets were off.
This is very different to this seasons situation.

There was a requirement that any loans were half season long ones I believe.  Think the message above has something missing because it suggests month long, but they were only until Jan.

All loans are a season long with a recall unless you pay a fee to the parent club to remove that clause.

My guess is that we won't.

We signed them on season long loans as reported above.   They got recalled at different times for different reasons.

Think about it from the parent club's perspective.    If they don't have a recall clause and they receive a bid for a player they can't sell him.   Or they may want them to play higher or they may not be getting any game time or playing in a Sheridan hoofball team being shouted at and demoralised all day.

Unless they receive compensation they will insist on a recall clause.

Pretty sure the EFL stated Town could only sign loan players for a maximum of half a season only in 2021season.

I think you will find that they were season long loans, but they had to be recalled in January and renewed for the rest of the season if both parties were in agreement, and all financial obligations had been met.  So both sides of the discussion are correct.  They were season long but the force break in January was a stipulation of the Umbongo.

This is because we were not allowed to pay a loan fee, but I doubt we would have done anyway or have done so this year.
