Even if we don't have an option we'll get a development fee if he does well and choses to leave at the end of the 2 years.
Really enjoy seeing people making bad news out of paying for a player, not aiming this at anyone in particular. There are always going to be fans who think the club is trying to fuck them over and no matter what they will only see the bad side of things. Doyle didn't sign until after the season started and he was the best forward in the division by a mile, Yates was our first signing and people moaned that they'd not heard of him.
Both were instrumental in us winning the league and then when we couldn't keep them people moaned, the same will happen again and again. There will be a player this season that is massively written off before a ball is kicked who leaves at the end of the season when the same faction of our fan base say we lack ambition by not keeping him.
Some fans just have that inherent need for the team they support to be their outlet for everything they hate in the world but can't complain about, this is their thing and that will never change. We scored the most goals in our division last season for example but we were "boring to watch" or we didn't score enough of a particular type of goal.
Agreed, defo a few on here as noted.

It would be good to have a Darcy again. I remember Arnold Darcy on the left wing in the early 60's. Think he came from Accrington Stanley. This one from Bolton Wanderers. Darcy? A very good Lancashire family, don't you know, rather than Pride and Prejudice. Reg would like that, I know.

Darcy next?
Happy as a squad player, got a decent amount of games under his belt across both divisions for a 21 year old. Another 2 year deal which is positive for everyone. I just hope he isn’t the Payne replacement as that would be seriously underwhelming haha. Also, was reported as free yesterday but today undisclosed? Guessing we’ve just paid a small sum to terminate contract or something as Evatt seemed more than happy for him to find football. Anyway, another body added and a fellow scouse lad for Clayton. 6 more needed for me. 3 loans and 3 more permanent additions - 4 being starting XI material. Let’s see how we go

Can’t imagine we’ve paid a fee - no matter how small - for a player to sit on the bench.
Payne’s a gonner

Think he was under contract until 2023 so I presume the 'easiest' thing would be for us to agree a nominal fee with Bolton - perhaps we are paying off some or all of the rest of his contract? The other alternative would have been a season long loan with us taking on his contract at the end of it. Either way, expect it's a small fee that is effectively a development fee, possibly similar to what Northampton paid us for AK.

I'm sure he keeps himself in good condition but it can't be good for Payne to be missing out on so much of pre-season taking so long to decide what he is doing next in his career? I suspect his agent is playing clubs off against each other with our 'incredible' offer. Given how long it's taken him to make up his mind, if he does accept our contract offer, he is going to need to be bloody good week in and week out this season. I suspect he won't. I just hope that we might to use the money put aside for Payne to bring in 1 or 2 real quality acquisitions, one of them a proven striker. (which as we know costs the earth anyway)

Not sure we actually paid a fee for him.
‘Wanderers are understood to have bonus payments included in the midfielder's contract dependent on future success at Swindon.’

Where was that reported Aud? Both official sites state undisclosed fee but that could really mean anything. Payment based on future performance I guess makes perfect sense although I assume Bolton might get something small up front, even if it's just some/all of his remaining contract amount or something.

I’m sure Duke will be on soon to tell us Payne may or may not be signing.
