16 goals in 3 seasons, not bad for a midfielder, almost all of them from distance. Still only 20 so hes one for the future. Been scouted by Brighton as well I hear.
Trialled at Wycombe this summer, too. Got to say, ‘banking’ young talent is the way forward for clubs such as ours. It says we are looking at the future and not just the present. Almost seems we’ve got a plan!

Trialled at Wycombe this summer, too.
Played in their friendly vs Leicester a couple of weeks back and impressed and Wycombe wanted him but couldnt come to an agreement to sign him. @micra said: Apparently Ricky Aguiar has a rocket of a right boot “..and his left ain’t bad either!” Around the 20 mark, I think so presumably lined up for the development squad but he is intriguing.

I think thats a great idea, even if its not in a formal league many teams have lots of young players who are on the verge of the 1st team yet play few games so need game time. We have in the past played about 5 or 6 a season (behind closed doors) of these games with a few first teamers included as well as youngsters, makes perfect sense.

We used to have the Football Combination which was teams in London and south of Birmingham which did the same thing but stopped about 9 years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Football_Combination

I know the Central League is Midlands and North but that link suggests southern teams can also join, albeit I imagine travel costs would put most clubs off (suppose if they are afternoon games at least there should be no accomo0dation costs)? Seems mental that there is no reserve football any more, never went to Town but used to go to a fair few stiffs games when I lived in Newcastle, I remember Robin Hulbert mysteriously showing up on the NUFC teamsheet at one, when he was still contracted here.

I used to go to all the localish midweek Reserve games as late as 2012, Weymouth, Dorchester, Yeovil, Exeter, Torquay.
They were good competitive games against decent teams, always got to know the players and staff at those games too, got to know quite a few scouts and managers of other teams such as gary Johnson, Russell Osman, Steve Perryman, Tony Adams and Martin Keown to name a few that I watched games with at that level.
£2 entry for a 2pm KO midweek, they were good fun.

Pretty happy to read we're going down the route of bringing in young talent and looking to nurture and give them a good path in the game. Another promising player, the OS doesn't really say what kind of player he is, sounds like a number 10 perhaps?

The acquisition of young talent, Yes. The re-routing of funds into an off-shore bank account when we sell that talent? I think not..

It will be expensive to run and maintain a side in a regular U23 league. Even more so to upgrade the academy to the next level.
Would be a serious statement of intent if the club is able to manage one or both of the above.
Edit: Securing some serious sponsorship for the U21 / U23 side might do the job though.
