I see we’ve offered Ireland a contract but his agent wants too much.
Thought he said he’d play for nothing just to get a chance to prove himself.
What he said was ‘I’d play for nothing’, what his agent says is ‘no you won’t’. Therein lies one of the issues of modern day football. The agent tells the player what to do. When said player signs the club tells said player what to do. Though the latter is not 100% club calling the shots. If he did play for nothing his agent would get? Yes, nothing so I can’t see that happening. |

You can only have 5 in match day squad. You can have more in total though. We have 3 currently, Smith, Smith and hopefully Kovar. Remember at the start of last season when Doyle and Grant joined we had to not include one of our 6 loanees. It wasn't a problem as it was Adam May. Realistically though, given we are using loans for first choice players. There are only 2 gaps, if the GK is done. |

I have often wondered that. Especially in a situation where the agent is pushing a player to sign for a club where the agents interests are more than catered for at the expense of the players. |

So, that’d mean a backup keeper on a perm. Hopefully, at least 1 striker we can call our own - plus 1 on loan. Unless Twine is seen as decent enough for cup games and regular Matchday squadder.
About time the Woolery/Isgrove saga was put to bed - beyond a joke now. Only just over a week until our first competitive game.

Wellens suggested he wanted an experienced 2nd choice keeper who is happy to bench warm and push the 1st choice for a spot. Wellens does seem to sound frustrated on signing players, what we dont know is if this is down to wages players want and us not paying as much as we was, not able to get wanted players or something else. What does concern me a little is before Wellens we had a history of leaving it late getting players and, it was found later in the season they wasn't good enough. The concern is if this is being forced onto Wellens then potentially the calibre of player will be lesser, Wellens has essentially said he will only hang around as long as he has a squad capable of giving it a go rather than battling against relegation, and at the moment the squad suggests with 2 or 3 injuries we may have a problem. Hopefully we can strengthen in the next week and assemble a decent squad. In Wellens we trust though. |

I’d imagine with the squad cap, most clubs will struggle if they get a few injuries, suspensions.
No good having the best starting XI this season if the back-ups are no good. Better off having a squad of above average quality than a tonking XI and not much else.

On that sofa interview thing the other day, Wellens did state that he thought the club with the deepest squad would win the league overall, not the strongest starting XI.
