I remember Wellens once saying he didn't want Doyle to work too hard, he just wanted him sniffing around the box. Maybe that means an older player will get away with it. Although their reactions will still need to be sharp enough if they're to be a poacher.

They’ve been having a shake up since Appleton came in... They’ve signed two or three younguns from WBA already, so wouldn’t be surprised to see Morton head there, particularly given Appleton’s history with the club.
Noted in terms of the Catcliffe Shakedown But regarding the ones from Baggies that they signed...weren't they signed before Michael Pearcentury was at WBA, so would question that his WBA contacts have not (yet) been resourced?

I think someone tweeted Alan Nixon to see if there was any truth in it and he just said 'no'. That's not to say he is the oracle in transfer dealings, but in general he does appear to have his finger on the pulse.

Makes me think if Marc Richards were 3/4 years younger and fully fit, he would have relished playing in a Wellens side (I mean not the side he inherited but an almost fully RW assembled side). I know he was here under RW but didn't he get a lengthy injury under PB? PB was then subsequently sacked and I don't think Richards was quite fully fit when RW came in. Seem to remember a deal to Port Vale fell through in Jan, so all focuses were aimed elsewhere (MR & RW) as we brought in Theo Robinson? Could be wrong on that. But yeah, a "slower" yet instinctive forward might not be a bad option as poacher if building a team to work around them. Well to do a job for a season and help get us up. Youngish forward line at the moment so it wouldn't surprise me to see an older/more experienced head come in.

Not a rumour (this pre season at least) but I'd like us to offer Brett Pitman a deal after leaving Pompey. Could be a brilliant focal point as the one up front with the likes of DJ, Payne etc buzzing round him.

Don't want castoffs from clubs in the same league.

I think Pitman or Maynard would be worth a punt for 1 season.
Both proven scorers at this and higher level, both without a club, both would sit in and around the box and just be poachers the rest of the team would work around them and set up the chances for them.
I won't write off any player before we sign them and if Wellens/Jewell thinks they will be good enough and a peice in the jigsaw then I trust his/their judgement.

I previously referenced how we must be set-up similar to the Clive Allen Spurs team in the 80's, maybe Clive could still do a job?

In the words of Brian Moore "...over to you Clive." I'm glad Moore got to commentate on that Michael Owen goal. Must be 20 years since he passed away

Strange take. Had a more than decent goalscoring record at League 1 level and above.
