Still is.

I’ve only ever seen his name linked to us by the young town faithful on twitter.

To be fair to the Cowleys, the shift actually started last summer after promotion. Out went the lumps Akinde and Rhead etc and in came Tyler Walker, our own Jack Payne, Jorge Grant....

Would anyone be excited by Maynard?

He is 34 in December. Had a decent last couple of season in league two for sure. At any level above that his return has been poor unless you go back to 2012 (when ultimately he was prime age)

If we were in League two still and had lost Doyle then i think sure. Just don't think its worth it for league one myself.

Has there ever been any official links to Maynard beyond Audreys twitching ring?

Last season there was from Wellens himself, before he went to Mansfield for the money. This season, no.

FWIW I would be mildly underwhelmed by Maynard if we signed him

Just under 1 in 2 for an average team last season, which ain't bad at all. And better than 1 in 2 the season before that.

But he's 34 in December, so you've gotta wonder how much he has left.

Maynard wouldn't have been far behind Doyle if he'd been here last season. I'd take him for a year.
