I would rather Doyle than Devitt anyway TBH.

He must be the most valuable player we've ever signed, if you add up the three transfer fees paid for him.

Paul Ince, I'd have thought? £7.5m to Inter from United and a few other moves adding up to around £15m I think.

Interesting trivia question though, should keep us going the rest of the summer

It is clearly Powers' fault we missed out on Devitt, no ambition and lack of funding as he seaks to drag us out of the league.

Your setting the bar too high surely. I thought the perceived wisdom was the collapse of the club into oblivion?

Matt Taylor was Luton to Pompey £475k, Pompey to Bolton £4.25m and Bolton to West Ham £2.5m so £7.5m in total but I doubt anyone will beat Ince.

from one Barnsley fan:

There are some good and some bad about Zeki, apparently injury prone and one says "his injuries aren't necessarily physical"? wierd comment.

Still if he stays fit with us I think he will be a huge asset and we badly needed a left back.

Now a striker and centre back please, Doyle and Nelson (probably out of our league) will do nicely, then maybe a winger/playmaker too.

Undisclosed fees make it a guess, but Charlie Austin must have racked up a decent total.

Likewise James Milner - although he only played half a dozen games for us.

Would you be disappointed with Bennett? Very similar in style to Devitt.

After playing for us, not before they joined us though.

No I would like Bennett back, he likes playing for Wellens, he doesn't like it at Rovers, his wages are the stumbling point and I think he has a year left on his contract too.

He plays probably 1 good game every 2 matches, or even 2 out of every 3, at this level thats a good average for a flair player, enough to get him several MoM awards...as he got with us.

He also scores 1 in 3 which would mean a theoretical 15 goals a season over the whole season, not to be sniffed at.

Good shout, forgot he "played" for us for a few games.
The fact Fryers lost Man Utd 5.75m is fun as well.

I thought we'd been sold a dud based on Bennett's first couple of games, but he certainly had something about him the longer I saw him.  Pure Hot and Cold type of player though.
