87 appearances for Fryers in all competitions - seems to have had little bursts with Barnsley over the past two seasons.  Clearly there is a reason why he'd drop to this level, but it's still a pretty big drop for someone in and around a Championship first team.

Apparently he made it clear at the end of last season in the Barnsley Chronicle that he wanted to leave to get regular first team football.

from one Barnsley fan:

Good luck to him and Wellens with his hope that he can play week in week out. Too good for that level but injuries hamper him. If he can stay fit he will be one of the best left backs in the league, if not in PFA team of the year.

So have anyone’s socks been removed by the percussion of this unexpected signing?

That ticks all the boxes for me, never know how good a signing will be until they play a bit but absolutely nothing to complain about. Sock loosening, so to speak.

Presumably the first Ezekiel to play for Swindon too?

So Eion Doyle is the 31 year old? Any other candidates fit that number? If not and it is Doyle would a new sock drawer be required?

Impossible to know if both will be good if Doyle does sign but decent pedigree and an indication to other potential signings as to our intentions.

What it may do is give other targets a little nod as to our determination to get a squad together to make a genuine promotion push.

Another Barnsley comment:

One of the better full backs going forward but caught out of position too much, although his pace was always a factor, hope he does well.

Yet again, Wellens injects pace into the squad. Seems to be preferring quality going forward over defensive soundness from his 2 fullback signings.

Reckon we’re in for a ‘hang onto your hats’ season.

If it turns out to be a cross between the Hoddle & Di Canio years you’re probably right.

It's an interesting signing, Fryers must have some talent, but seems to have lost his way somewhat.  What is it injuries, attitude?   Let's hope he can rediscover himself at Town.
