Not quite right. The clubs of the aforementioned have turned us down. Which implies to me we might be looking to spend, and they wont release until they have cover, or just wont release.
Or we didn't offer enough money to sign them. 17 seems rather a lot to have turned us down, could be normal as you say with the transfer domino effect of one team signing a new player then releases another.

I just assumed the 16 was a massive exaggeration. I’d be amazed if we’d even spoken to 11/12 centre backs let alone turned down by 16.

From the Adver.... "The same cannot be said for Brown's options in defence, the manager revealing 16 centre halves have turned down the opportunity to join Town as he continues his search to add to his under-power back four. "

The same cannot be said for Brown's options in defence, the manager revealing 16 centre halves have turned down the opportunity to join Town as he continues his search to add to his under-power back four.
Brown currently has six recognisable defenders in Chris Robertson, Joe Romanski, Oliver Lancashire, Kyle Knoyle, Dion Conroy and Matt Taylor and has already admitted to be lacking power in defence with little more than a week remaining until the start of the season.
While he’s prepared to wait for the right candidates, Brown struggled to hide his frustration at not being able to secure the services of at least one of his dozen targets.
He said: “I have a list of 16 centre halves I’ve had a go at, and they’re not coming here for no other reason but the circumstances at their own football club.
“It could be finances - but it’s not Swindon Town, it’s not Phil Brown, it’s not Lee Power.
“We’ll keep on going and putting our case forward. Hopefully come August 4 we

Surely Brown has managed to scare up a couple of CB triallists. As for a striker I expect actual, proper cash to be spent on one.

You'd like to think the week before the first match, you'd be putting out more or less the starting XI and given them some time to play together.

Don't think I'll bother tonight, what with the season only being a week away and no new player speculation.
Look forward reading a report or two later though

Should be an outing hopefully for MAF and Potter if not any extra trialists such as Hird maybe? Just need the team in place now for next week so we can see what and who we have.

So it appears Potter has left us and that MAF is trying to be signed by PB but Power isn't around to agree to it. Plus a Premier League loan defender could be on his way, hopefully. Former Celtic striker Marc Antoine Fortune caught the eye of both Brown and the supporters at the Webbswood Stadium and the manager would like to see the 37-year-old join the club.
“I would like to get it done. The chairman (Lee Power) isn’t here but is really impressed with the pedigree of the player,” he added.
“We just wanted to have a look at him and his fitness levels. He hasn’t been working for anybody. He was promised a deal at Southend United but it didn’t manifest itself.
“He’s an angry man at the moment. He is such a professional and conducts himself impeccably off the field of play.
“A lot of the younger players can learn from him. I think he is a good player and a good person to have around. He has Champions League experience, so to have that in the second division would be great.
“He was fantastic for me at Southend so I would like to get him on board and hopefully the chairman will agree with me.”
