What's a defensive forward
Marc Richards Cheesy

Quote
“His main duty is to put pressure on the defensive line, chase down the man in possession and loose balls and generally stop the opposing defence having any time on the ball.

“In an attacking sense, he keeps things as simple as possible, preferring to bring other players into the game than create his own chances"

Transfer rumours site reckons we’ve offered terms to Stuart O’Keefe of Cardiff.

Surely we don’t need another midfielder

Thats one position we eally don't need to strenghten in.

Southend fans did say that PB likes to sign midfielders and sometimes play them out of position but surely enough is enough, unless we will offload Dunne?

I've posted before about how Guardiola would like a team of midfielders....

From Sid Lowe...

This, after all, is the manager who said his dream was to have 100% of the possession, a team made up entirely of midfielders. One of his most tactically emblematic games was the World Club Cup final in 2011: that day Barcelona hammered Santos 4-0 with a formation that was essentially 4-6-0 but no less attacking for it. Control was everything.

“Midfielders are intelligent players who have to think about the team as a whole: they’re selfless players who understand the game better than anyone,”  said Guardiola

We played 4-6-0 once that I can remember, under Cooper.

A masterful display by Luongo as the false nine in an away win at Colchester. Happy days.

Would never have got away with at home though.

We were great that day, what an awful place for a (boring) stadium though, much preferred Layer Road, it was an absolute shit-hole of a place but at least it was honest.

Apparently Power went mental at Cooper for changing tactics after the match as he wasn't in the country.

That was the start of the split between Cooper and Power, even if it got the result on the day Power and Sherwood were not happy.

Although N'Guessan and Ajose played they played as wingers that day and wierdly both scored.

Only went to Layer Road once, a Friday night.
Had left the stadium to try and catch the train, then Mooney scored the winner.

Once for me too, Michael Reddy scored the only goal on a cold Tuesday night...  decent goal though..

That's interesting. Didn't know that.
Do remember Power on the radio shortly afterwards coming across as all jolly with the formation change suggestions from Cooper.

I suspect that history will look kindly upon MC's time in charge given the circumstances.

Don't recall being at that one, though I may have been.  Was definitely there just over a year later for another 1-0 win courtesy of an SSP goal from a David Duke cross though.

Well, why didn't you just state the names in the first place instead of putting some guff to make everybody guess and trying to make out you're yet another one of the ITK brigade?

I only went there once too in the 85/86 championship winning season on a Friday night. Bamber scored an equalizer and the 1,700 Town fans in a crowd of just under 3k went wild. Crammed in like sardines we were. Almost stood on the touchline too, looked like an absolute full house(6k) but was only 2,997 there.
