Yes, I know it might sound daft offering £100,000 for an old man, and yes, you might find it laughable, Chang, but how much did we spend on Benson (successful old man), on Barker (unsuccessful youngish man), on Benyon (unsuccessful youngish man)? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It could be argued that Benson had no resale value, but without him we may not have got promotion. The money spent on Barker and Benyon could also be argued as having been pissed down the drain for all they contributed.

Going back to my original post on this, £100,000 bids for Ibehre and Pope could result in two on-form strikers at the club. Yes, they are too old for the current model, but I doubt if they would develop Altzheimer's before the end of the season.

Are there any young, decent, affordable strikers out there who would also have resale value? Bradshaw appears to be too expensive and has dubious profitable resale value, and even Ajose appears to be too expensive to have back on loan.

Benson didn't cost us a penny in terms of a transfer fee, and from what I recall the fee for Barker was no more than £40,000 and Benyon £50,000.

My amusement at £100,000 for Ibehre is not because of his age, it is because he is a useless lump of a journeyman who appears to have found his level in League 2 and would not fit in with our playing style what so ever.

With regards to available targets, lets see if Power has anyone up his sleeve, Smith and Obika were certainly not obvious targets when we signed them however both were cheap and we will make money on them.

surely the issue isn't one of a fee there Ironside, but of wages. older experienced players more likely to be outside our wage structure IMO.

Whatever their actual fees, some have, in retrospect, been value for money, others not.

As for Ibehre, I would say he is actually performing exceptionally well at the moment, and better than 'a useless lump of a journeyman'. I've no idea whether he would fit in with our playing style, but neither is Smith currently.

You seem sure we will make money on Smith and Obika. We may well, of course, but there's no guarantee we will receive more than we paid for them, and Obika would have to be sold before his contract runs out at the end of this season. I wouldn't say they were cheap, either, if the reported £100,000+ and £200,000 fees we paid are correct.
