I like Smith but I think it's been pretty clear from early summer that Obika and Hylton are considered the future. Plus if he's homesick, he's homesick. Not much we can do about that. As Ardiles points out, he's replaceable. Still not sure whether Ajose is hypothetically the answer but he has a good relationship with Cooper so why not?

if we can get anywhere near the 400k rumoured take it without a doubt. I believe we payed £100k for him? Good profit in a very short time for a player that has potential but still so much to learn. All this is majorly dependent on a good replacement. fingers crossed.

Smith when he's playing well is a great target man at this level. But early on, and when he's been short of confidence, his hold up play and first touch have been a bit like mine.
If we get someone decent in to replace him Im not averse to him going.

It seems we end up with strikers dependent on confidence quite a lot. Smith and Williams both on full confidence would win us the league imo. The problem is when they have a bad game and cant get it back. Get us a cox or austin player with the arrogance to say I am good enough and will prove it.

I'd agree with the above, I like Smith, but when he has his off days (which are quite regular) You might as well play with 10 men. Only downsides are more disruption to the squad, and no doubt he'll score loads against us.

I personally think Willo's form dropped massively after his missus had that baby. Think he scored 1 goal for the rest of the season after that?
Late nights methinks.

Willo's form dropped off after Cooper fucked about with the formation and played with one striker at home - whether that was at the time of the baby's arrival I do not know!

Smith is the most frustrating striker. He scores goals, but as others have said, when he has an off day he's like a donkey. I think 400-500k is great business.

Apparently he just wants to move up North. Just doesn't like being down here. So I'm not sure about Smith's 'injuries' recently being legit.
This excuse sort of makes me laugh, how long has he been down south? I like Smith, but as pointed out earlier, if he has a bad game you might as well play with ten men. Good season last year though.

Agree re Smith. Though no money will be spent on a replacement will be either a loan or triallist to perm.

That has been the case up until now. Would like to think that if Smith did go we would spend on a replacement but do not hold your breath.
At least we are now sustainable- unlike the clubs who are just ticking debt time bombs.
What really gets my goat is that there is no enforceable restriction on clubs spending- the wages to turnover rule is worthless as clubs just get round it.
If we are breaking even on our gates which are in the top half attendance wise of this league- then a proportion of clubs must be spending well beyond their means

Yes, because LP doesn't spend any money on players, right?
