It's all in the name. James Brophy sounds like a decent player - maybe cos it rhymes with Trophy!
We had a youngster years ago called Tobin - I had a similar scenario set out for him.
Alas, he never made it. Not even close.
See I thought Tobin sounded a bit too much like Dobbin, an old affectionate name for a slow plodding horse. OK it was also a name applied to Arthur Horsfield by some....but not by me as I liked King Arthur.

Was that a fag he came out on the pitch with or an inhaler? http://www.vipfaq.com/Arthur%20Horsfield.html

For some reason Brophy doesn't excite me at all. This is based on absolutely nothing.
He excites me more than BOO from what I've seen so far, though admittedly, that's only based on short cameos at the end of the game, when the opposition were coasting. Assuming BOO's going to be first-choice LB, he could end up being this season's Jack Barthram.

May I join you, Wokingham Red, in a decent whinge of "concern" and remind the sustainability zealots that Power's stated aim is also to seek promotion to the Championship. Some of the profit that has come into the club by investing in unproven players has actually cost us a fee (Luongo, Flint, Austin, Ritchie) as well as benefited us on the playing front.
Not having a pop at Power or "the model" as I'm not in Power's shoes and I also trust his footballing judgement. I'm grateful too for his past financial commitment. I'm just a little dubious as to whether he is prepared to continue, modestly of course, to speculate to accumulate with one or two of the many winning chips we have recently cashed in.
Last season must have been more than sustainable thanks to player sales, Shirley?

Best to reserve judgement until the transfer window closes.

Power's spent more on transfer fees than Black did. Oh, and I'm quite sure we didn't 'spend' any money on Luongo anyway, he just had a big sell on clause in the contract.

Power has spent well but in all fairness to AB his main outlay was on wages as opposed to transfer fees (it's a different argument as to how well that money was actually spent).

I know that Black spent a lot of wages. That's not the point. RedRag was lamenting Power not investing in unproven players although he has done, demonstrably so.

Interesting point on transfer fees. Black did pay for his meal when he left but it is Black's wages bill that has in part hampered the club and Power. That said, Williams did earn his wages for a good part of last season, as did Fods and I'm hoping there may some hints of getting replacements a little closer still to their standard. Turnbull, with a year under his belt, or similar would be great.
Whatever, time will tell and looking forward to a brand new season.

[/quote I didn't say that was the point!!!! You compared Power to Black in terms of transfer fees spent, I compared Power to Black in terms of wages spent. I was merely making an observation.
