Some dick was outraged about us potentially signing someone that had played for Mansfield yesterday (not being able to tell the difference between a shitty one-horse town in Cheshire, and a shitty one-horse town in Nottingham), making it clear just how short term his association with the club has been, and how little he gives a fuck about its history.
Macari shopped at those shitty little clubs all the time, and the club would have been a lot poorer without Calderwood, Bodin and the rest.
How school boy like. If you're going to imply I'm a dick just come out and call me a dick. Shopping around in the lower leagues is different to picking up players these lower league teams didnt want. I wasn't outraged, just concerned at the type of players we've looked at so far.

Well there's a defender with plenty of experience, despite only being 29. Was caretaker boss at Stevenage for a while. Only problem is he has the look of a young Jimmy Saville. Does anyone remember the physio we had ages ago who looked like Jimmy Saville? Didn't have the same sinister edge to it back then obviously.

I think you're talking about Kevin Morris. I remember he died but can't remember the specifics of it, any TEFers card to fill me in?

That's right. Such a shame. I remember a testimonial I think, with Hoddle in it. My memory ain't what it was. My mate reminded me the other day of us being hit with golf balls, thrown by the Oxford after a 4-2 win at the Manor Ground. I'd forgotten all about that.

That should be a good signing. Has been a key part of their recent rise and Stevenage fan I work with has said that he's the type of player that always gives 100%.

He committed suicide, I don't think the reasons were 100% known but I think his wife died the year before from a teminal illness. The testimonial was against Chelsea, and the County Ground was so packed by the time we got there we had to go into the Chelsea end with town tops underneath our jumpers. Loudly proclaiming Dennis Wise a cunt may have given us away, I don't think I spoke much after that! edit: sorry Flash, didn't refresh before your post.

I don't think that'll go down well in Stevenage. Another potential new skipper too.

One of the best scenes in our documentary 'That's Football' is when Steve White is discussing players with knocks who play on when the Play Offs are coming up, that wouldn't earlier in the season. Morris starts talking about what's important in life etc, using his wife's illness as an example. Very sad, especially with what happened just a few years later.

Indeed Jan.
I seem to remember he got quite irate talking about it.
Another riding memory is him sat in the dugout crying at Tranmere, pipe in mouth, are we scored the last goal to get to Wembley.
Top man.

I had a beer with Kevin Morris in the Swiss Chalet a while before he passed away....he was sat there alone puffing on his pipe(you could in those days!)....he was a very sad figure and though he enjoyed talking a little about the football he was an incredibly sad man.
One of the great characters of the club.

Kevin Morris was a fantastic character and is still missed by those of us that met him or crossed paths.
A lovely man who never took the pipe from his mouth it seems and was always whistling or singing songs, he sang Rawhide to me when I was a young lad working at the club.
Turned down Nottm Forest under Brian Clough in about 76 or 77 just before they went on the run to the European Cup Final as he prefered to stay in Swindon where he was at home.
I think its justifable to use the term "Swindon legend" when talking about him.
