My flatmate, who is related to a Man U player, has spoken before about how talent and effort has to be balanced.

Seemingly Chris Eagles as a youngster was a superstar and technically better than a lot of players at his level but wasted his talent by not putting in the effort of some of his other team mates and is now at Bolton!
Is that the Bolton in the Premier League?

Let that be a lesson to all other wasters......

Yeah, he is playing for a team 2nd bottom of the premier league and has spent much of his career in the Championship and he would probably argue that he is having a decent career as a professional footballer.

But had he had a better attitude and commitment at Man U, he could have had the career of say David Beckham for example.

Ok, so Eagles isn't the best example, as he wasn't exactly a 'waster'. But could and should have played for England. He may look back and regret that given the chance he had at Man U and didn't take.

He's also built like a string bean, which doesn't help in this country.
