Darius Vassel is crap.
Yep Any player with 22 England caps would be a crap signing at L1 level. (Not that I think it's true)

Methinks you have Darius Henderson in mind
Yep, that will teach me for not reading it properly. Vassell is shit, too late in the day and injury prone.

He won all 22 caps in a very short period of time - only about 2 years. The complete opposite to players like Wright, Fowler and Cole who banged them in for fun at club level but never quite did the business for England. Amazingly at club level from 98 to 2011 he was never on the losing side in a game he scored in!

Mixed bag really. Those that liked him said he would be a good squad player but admitted that he was probably on stupid money.

A good squad player in the Championship is likely to be more so than that in L1 Not saying we should sign him (as if we could anyway), just surprised that people can automatically brand any player with so much CH experience last season as 'crap'. It's all relative. Should we be trying to sign 'good' CH players? I think that'll be rather unlikely.

It perhaps needed a comma after Christ Lee

I guess we should try but why would any player like that come to play for us. I'd question their ambition if they dropped down to play for us, as opposed to a decent Champ team.

I should have used the word 'expecting' instead of trying. Vassell has played the vast majority of his career in the PL and the last couple in the CH, yet he's crap. We're only in the third tier folks.

In regards to o'kane.I don't know why we would bid 250k for a player with a 200k release clause.

Vassell is/was a great player but I would be tempted to say we steer clear. Never a great goalscorer but creates chances and dragged defenders all over the show but recent injuries at this stage in his career would make me question how much life there is left in those legs.
Bit of a punt, if the wages are reasonable and the appetite is there to drop a league then still worth a look but only after the pre-season torture.
