I heard he expressed an interest (also Leicester have said the same) in going to his home town club but of course Sunderland would be a better footballing prospect.
....and Martin O'Neill takes him most places!

Face facts Ralphy...if a club like Yeovil can become self financing by off field activities, and we cannot, then we'll be left behind. It may not be apparent in the short term, but I never thought that Reading were anything much, and they've left us behind.
That would be true but I can tell you that Yeovil are struggling financially and the plans to redevelop Huish Park (mostly the away end) have been thrown out flat by the council so they won't be expanding or moving any time in the near future. There is a massive apathy in the area now that they are a football league club, nothing like when they were non league.

Reading and Yeovil are as night & day in terms of potential. Reading is at the centre of a densely populated & affluent catchment with excellent transport links; Yeovil is in the middle of nowhere.
I know you like to play devil's advocate, Reg - but the day Yeovil become the biggest club in the SW will be the day I change my name to Susan. I'd say there's more chance they will eventually go the way of Rushden (another club that some were touting as the next traditionally non-League club to make the big time.)

Nearly all clubs are struggling financially, we're no different, which is why finding some sort of economic use for a redeveloped ground are so key to our progress.

Always a possibility when Mr Martin Starnes is in charge of finances as he is at Yeovil in the post of CEO.

This is spot on (x 100). Also why the club and Swindon BC should be working very closely on this. This is a key site. Get the redevelopment right, and there are benefits there for the town as a whole as well as STFC. The town centre (OK, the ground is just outside it, but it's central enough) needs a shot in the arm.

I think deep in our hearts we know this will never happen...all you need to do is look at the tired old corrupt Tory lags who got re-elected last week to see why. Being in the middle of nowhere isn't necessarily the end of the world, if you can get things right. Ipswich isn't exactly well linked to the rest of the country, has a population roughly half the size of Swindon...but averages around 19,000 in what has been a poor season. Good facilities, and brings in fans from the surounding empty districts.

If Bristol City can reportedly get £2 million for Maynard with 6 months left on his contract then it doesn't sound very tempting at all.

I would rather we keep him for the last year of his contract and thathe helped us get back to back promotions rather than sell him for a cut price £325k when we turned down over £750k 5 months ago.
Promotion to the Championship is worth around £5 million according to Mr Fitton before the last play off against Millwall.

I remember Andy Williams playing against us for Hereford a few years back. They parked the bus and hit us on the break with Williams scoring twice - IIRC he was lightning fast. Not been too impressed when I've seen him since for Hereford, Rovers & Yeovil. We need to be signing players of championship quality not run of the mill League 1 players.
Yeovil with aspirations to be a big club has to be a joke. A small town in the middle of nowhere will never attract sufficient crowds - 4,000 is pretty impressive for the catchment area they have. The Ipswich analogy isn't comparing like with like - Ipswich is only a little smaller than Swindon and 3 times the size of Yeovil.

The population of Somerset is close on a mill....Somerset has one football league side. The population of Ipswich is about 120,000....Swindon closer to 200,000.
