I agree with that. Flynn had no idea and GG was a car crash ultimately. MC Gurk,Glatzel,Ofobohr and Drinan all improved us to a certain extent and with a pre season under their belt can surely only improve
I would also add Bycroft to that category… assume he’s Kennedy’s number 1 this season.

I know I am flogging a dead horse, and have gone all Ghost of Reg, but did they, really?

Drinan scored 4 in 10+7
Glatzel scored 7 in 18+1

I think the latter is a good enough player to have competing for the first team if you want promotion, but Drinan is no more than a back-up.  Between them, that's an OK return, but worse than what they essentially replaced, so not better.

Ofoborh played 6 games, it's not really enough to judge him.  He looked like he had something, but he also comes with a monumental health warning.  you'd be very wary about spending first team player wages on such a risk.  It may come off, but it's just another example of our haphazard approach to building a football squad.

McGurk was a bit part player - he managed 7 starts (and don't think any of those were for 90 mins were they?) in half a season.  Hardly made us better - our results continued as they had been, if not worse.  Does he have something about him?  Of course.  Should he be a first team pick, probably not.  he's another gamble with lots of upside, but a gamble.

Of all four, only Glatzel showed consistent promise at the right level.  He survived half a season, so we hope that one is paying off.

We lost Kemp, Young, Kinsella (from the positions these four came into) - one of those was as meh as they come, but as a squad, did it really get better?  We had more forward options, that is for sure, but we still did not improve as a squad, as a whole.

A lot of that is dependant to what extent you blame the coaching/management.

Both shit, for different reasons.

I think a competent Manager gets us a few places higher, not much though.  I think I called a low mid table position within a week or two of the season starting.  We stank of mediocrity early on.  It was also clear the goal scoring couldn't keep getting us the results when we had such a bad squad (squad) and set ourselves up to be so open.  Gunning didn't improve us, he got a few more options to use, and carried on the same in reality.

I thought Drinan gave us something we didn't have to be honest.A proper target man with presence and strength. Goalscoring record was decent (4 in 10 starts) an improvement I felt on Murphy and Shade who'd both played up top after Young's departure. Think he'll be an asset next season

Seen a few Shrewsbury fans surprised that they didn’t offer him a new deal. Got a decent amount of experience in League One last season. Not a bad signing on paper.
