Sincere question
Do you think that Flynn has seen better quality than he first thought
Or
He now understands that there is no funds to improve what he currently has ?
Neither.
I think Flynn thinks he’s inherited a decent squad with some good young players who have the potential to kick on…but…I also think he knows where his gaps are and he knows he’s need quality to fill those gaps.
He’ll know he’s looking for not just first team players but quality, experienced first team players. That’s what he will be looking for. We don’t need a rebuild and we don’t need to pad out the squad.
We don’t really need the punts or the random trialists or projects like McKirdy who could / can be dynamite if you can get the best out of them.
The players we need are the players who are probably guaranteed to get multiple offers on good money at this level. Players who can and will happily sit out pre-season & fully asses their options before committing (kinda like Jack Payne last year who seemed to take an age to sign for Charlton and missed all of pre season)
Liam Kinsella seems highly rated and on paper would be a good signing at this level for a lot of team yet he’s signed no where and I’ve only seen him really linked here (because of Flynn) I can’t imagine he’ll be unemployed come August.
So, think Flynn is being patient and waiting for the right quality of reinforcements
