Have we ever had a channel islander play for us before?

Cracking signing, some great headers in the pompy goals so hopefully a few more goals from a corners this season.

That's the scrappy poacher sorted, with decent aerial threat too. Happy with that 1yr deal, just enough to get the job done. Clever signing. Town don't get lumbered if he doesn't do well and Pitman knows if he just does what he does best, he can replicate Doyle to then go get a final payday somewhere else. There is plenty of incentive for the player and Town's track record to back that up.

Before 12th September.

We're looking good and we haven't even kicked a ball yet. Bet the bookies are regretting that 2/1 v Charlton. Thanks for the free moneyyyyy*  Cheesy

Quote
Town have bolstered their attacking line-up ahead of their first competitive fixture of the season with the signing of experienced striker Brett Pitman.

The former Bournemouth and Bristol City player has signed for the club on a one-year deal with the option to extend for another year.

The 32-year-old spent last season at League One side Portsmouth, scoring two goals in 11 appearances.

Pitman said: "It's exciting to join a club that got promoted last season and that will be going in the right direction, full of confidence for the new season."

"I did my homework and found out he (the manager) plays good football, exciting football and at my age that was a massive factor to enjoy my football."

"It's a good club, they can take the momentum from last season onwards and hopefully do well this season."

He arrives with plenty of experience as a Championship striker, helping Bournemouth secure promotion to the Premier League in 2015 scoring 13 goals in the process.

Pitman also helped the Cherries out of League One in 2013 with 19 goals in 26 appearances.

During his playing career he spent three seasons at Bristol City, scoring 20 goals in 77 matches, as well as 14 in 64 at Ipswich Town.

The Englishman joined Portsmouth at the start of the 2017-18 season and scored a total of 37 goals in 81 games for Pompey.

Amazing how one signing can move a price. Hardly surprising though. The things is, he may not even start tomorrow but of course the bookies can only work with the data they know they have. Except it to change again if Pitman is named in the starting XI at 2pm tomorrow.

wonder how fit he is. not a slight on him, just lack of pre season is going to take a while to get up to speed.

send like a good signing to me

The photos of him today make him look as though he's slimmed down, which would probably help.

From the video of his goals, Pitman certainly looks brave and not afraid to get hurt if there’s a chance of scoring . Seems a really good deal for both parties and we’re looking good in most departments now, back up keeper next please

Love the signing, very shrewd I would say.

Not a complaint, more an observation. The FL have gone with a bit of a strange font (probably not the right terminology in this context) for letters and numbers on the backs of the players' shirts...

If Yates' replacement is going to be on the same par as Doyle's replacement then I'm going to be a very happy chappy.

But I can't help wondering where that would leave Tyler Smith.

Just thinking...after all the complaints that he looked like some bum who had just been dragged out of the County Ground Hotel, I'm thinking they must have used a body double for that shot. Looking in pretty good shape to me  Hmmm

I presumed Tyler Smith was going to be Yates replacement, very similar in style and positioning.

I am still hearing from my Rovers supporting mate that Bennett is high on our radar and they will accept us paying only a fraction of his wages to get rid of him.

Used to play with Pitman at Pompey too.

Decent squad player and knows what Wellens expects, we could do worse (yes and better).

The video of him from behind he certainly doesn't look very unfit.

That's what I thought as well at first, but I'm sure Wellens has since said that T Smith was not a replacement for Yates.
