TBF I can't remember what I had us down to do last year and I can't find the thread.

I think I had us down for playoffs.

Ah thanks for the link Reg, 3rd? hmmm maybe too optimistic again then!

I like this time of year. A week or so to go before the start of a new season when fans are generally at their most optimistic.
Then in most cases the built in pessimism will start to kick in after having seen their team play.

If your matchday thread score predictions had all been correct and applied across the full season, then we'd be looking forward to a season in the Conference following relegation with a record low points total.  Grin

Something we've had to respect many times in the past - Simon Ferry and Jordan Turnbull spring to mind.

I can't decide whether Brown/Power have mucked this up or they're not willing to bring someone in simply for the sake of it. I'm hope and lean towards the latter...

I don’t think either of them can afford to muck this season up. So I am with you on the latter.

Let us be honest with ourselves and each other, Power is not at SN1 because the loves the town, people, surroundding area and has been a closet lifelong supporter of the real Robins. Nah, he’s here to make money and by being a tax exile to hang onto as much of his own capitol as possible. So now that elephant in the corner has had the tablecloth whipped away from it let us think about this season.

So with the purchase of the ground and the development of that bit of turf in Highworth he is going to need money and plenty of it. Of course the capitalist tax avoider could use some other capitalist tax avoiders money (more likely IMHO) to do this but the end game of investing this money is success. After all having a swanky training ground and a tinpot ground don’t auger well for a club with championship aspirations. Look what happened to Rushden & Diamonds, all be it at a lower league level. This club needs success and quickly because it needs to attract bums on seats, sponsorship, and ultimately the players, management and backroom staff that will deliver success.

I have said before we are fortunate to have attracted Brown to the club after his intrim 10 game temporary contract. There must have been more to that appointment than just get us over the line Phil. No, I think that at the time of the appointment Power probably knew we wouldn’t make it and Brown soon after.

So to this season, there will be more players coiming in (which we know and is obvious), however, I think the quality will be much better than the grab anyone policy that Flipflop engaged in last season. Pretty much like the appointment of Flipflop as it seems to me now.

PL certainly, Championship clubs less so are still sorting out their final, final squads at all levels within their clubs having already got the starting lines ups established. Then the filtering down of fringe players and promising youth swings into play which is where we get the leftovers so to speak.

For me this is a pivotal season, the fan base is expecting us to get promotionand rather than hoping. If it does not happen, well that’s just not something I for one wish to contemplate.

Brown has the contacts, the experience and Power hopefully more trust in him to spend the money more wisely than blunder buss Flipflop.

I think he meant the defender was playing in a friendly yesterday but will be available after that.

If it was a Premiership defender playing yesterday then Ben White from Brighton fits the bill.

We have good relations with Brighton and he was on loan at Newport last season.

Centre back, 20 years old and not played in the league their first team as yet but has played 2 LC games, came on as sub for them yesterday at Brum.

I see Regan Poole is going out on loan this season, confirmed by Man Utd, was on loan at Northampton last season and previously was at Newport.

Capped by Wales at every level up to the first team.

20 year old CB very highly rated at Man Utd.

If Brown wanted another Olly Lancashire or Chris Robertson, I'm sure we would have filled that role many times over by now.

Yes in his interview he stated (probably exaggerating) that we had been turned down by 16 "clubs" not by 16 "players" so we are trying to sign players still at clubs not ones released.

I would imagine that all the players we have tried to sign would be loan CB's too which normally means younger inexperienced, obviously not always but usually.

It's very optimistic for any L2 side to be chasing Ethan Ampadu.

The Tisdale teams probably.

Good player.

I saw him play for Newport against Bristol Rovers when he was 16, was a class above that day

More than likely. Seems all he is signing is Exeter players.

I'd be amazed if Ampadu ends up in L1, let alone L2. Very good player.

Will either be MKD or Exeter.

Still only 17 so a L2 club would be a good move at his age, although probably to a team or manager that knows him already.

I can think of another L2 club that is in the market for a defender. It's not beyond the realms of imagination he might choose a club/manager he's not played for yet, especially not one that hopes to be challenging toward the top.

Not that I'm suggesting he will come here, of course, I don't know either way. But still...
