I'm sure we are going for more viable players in the background, even if they are loans. The squad is a bit thin after all the departures, everyone knows this .
if we can keep Ajose and obika fit, get Thompson back and Stephens we aren't that far away. IF.
smith leaving probably doesn't affect us, he's been out the picture for ages. losing Kasim could be an issue though, if that is what happens.

50k on Stewart. the rest were Jed weren't they, and even if not they are not the same thing as a coveted player established in a side.
we'll see
Who was the last coveted player from an established side we signed?? Not being flippant, I genuinely can't remember. We're Swindon, we never seem to win bidding wars

James Collins? That lad from the Pikies? I think there were a few in the PDC era, normally doesn't happen at all often though.

Yeah, had a quick look on Wikipedia and seems we bought Collins after a move to Coventry fell through. Forgot about Roberts too, who probably fulfills the criteria

It's easy to sign players when you offer them high wages. 5k for Williams springs to mind which although we got him on a free cost us £780,000 over the three years he was with us with no realistic resale value. There was also the Adam Rooney contract dispute where a figure of 8k was mentioned. You'll have agents and players knocking your door down for that sort of money. Problem is you'll have the bailiffs not far behind

What we should actually do is make an opening bid so high it blows the every one else out of the water by 250k, because that's good business practice.
The reaction to this "bid" is baffling. Absolutely baffling. How is it anything other than a positive move? Even if we offered 50k for the kid, it's worth offering. He's a 22yo striker in an average L2 side with a questionable goal record before this season who is worth absolutely nothing in five months time. Would be shocked if he went for anything close to 300k.

Exeter would be due compensation via tribunal. Remember us getting shafted for that defender by Exeter that way.

let's bid 75k for Roofe from Oxford, a cheeky bid but you have to try... might put a 2k offer on a new Merc later too. you never know...
That's what it feels like to me. I may be well off the mark but hopefully the stupid examples above show where I'm coming from.
if you think he'll go to league 1 for 100k then yes, I can see putting a bid in isn't silly.

We're not bidding 75k for Roofe from Oxford though, are we?
Seriously Batch, would you rather that we just did not even bother even trying to sign players such as the Exeter lad?

You may be spending too much time on the TEF.

Pretty much exactly what I expect... maybe slightly more but not much.

Seriously Batch, would you rather that we just did not even bother even trying to sign players such as the Exeter lad? no, but I put this in the same category. I just think it's pointless as I think he's out of our budget. like the Shrewsbury guy, and Clayton Donaldson, etc. Does it matter? I think it unrealistically raises expectations, but ultimately I guess not. If Power pulls this kind of transfer off, then who wouldn't be happy. until then I'll file it under BS and move on from this thread as people seem offended by my opinion (which is tough shit, but since things are getting circular...)
