local elections

I dont really pay attention of the local issues but Id have to say that the Tory Council have done a reasonable job of things in Swindon but I could never ever vote for them.I also dont feel I can vote Labour(as I always have) they've let down their core voters.Im veering towards Lib Dem but dont have a clue who their candidate is

 My mate may have been standing....I met some "interesting" people, during my dabbling with the IMG.

  Pride of place would have been in the late 70's, when at  a party someone said " Reg, you must meet Hilary"   Hilary was a reasonable looking bird, bit older than me, who had just been released from prison after trying to blow up Robert Carr, Tory Home Secretary.  I felt strangely humble.

Aint had a polling card and can't be bothered to vote for any of the wasters in my ward.

 You don't need a polling card to vote, as long as you're on the register, I always vote although flawed, our democracy is something that a lot of people fought for, some laying down their lives...its a mark of respect.

 In local councils elections, not all the seats are necessarily contested every year, so its maybe that your councillor was last elected in 2004.  Googling local councils 2004 may give you some results.....kind of depends where you live.

It's a rite of passage sure enough. just make sure you don't wimp out on the day.

A quick google reveals that Nick Martin (Con) quadrupled his nearest challenger last time, with Lib Lab and Green on about the same.

I'm with Reg too - my grandad hated politicians of every stripe but having fought and seen his mates die to defend democracy, he got bloody furious with people who couldn't be bothered to vote.

  Nah my mate wasn't Tariq....nor Hilary Benn, who thinking about it is a bloke.  Ray Davies alerted  me to the perils of watching out for dragged up blokes on a Saturday night.

I'm trying to decide whetehr or not to vote for Boris! I don't have much of a problem with Ken Livingstone as he has done some good stuff IMO, but his publicity this year was shockingly cheesey!

In a nutshell...

BNP? "British jobs for British workers" "Better education for all our people" Erm, no thanks
Left List look ok, but emergency council house building programme? No ta
BORIS! More police, protect green spaces, build affordable homes. Not bad.
Green Party. the candidate looks about 12. Their policies seem ok though
Lib Dem go on about record high fares on public transport, but seeing as prices were cut last year that's a blatant lie for a start!
UKIP, erm, no.
Alan Craig looks ok but a bit lame
English Democrats just make dodgy jokes about Scotland and tell lies
And of course Mr Livingstone. Lots of promises but not sure if he'll walk the walk!

Sorry, I bet none of you care about my opinions on the London elections! Ah well, that's what happens when you're surrounded by political nerds all the time  :|

I like the London Elections. As I don't live there, Boris would be an excellent choiuce as he can provide us with a great deal of amusement. Not sure I'd want him running anything that affected me though.

The London stuff interests me a bit. I watched the London Mayor Question Time, with the 3 main candidates, on Thursday which was quite amusing. Boris Johnson got a proper talking down a few times. He's a likeable bloke but he doesn't often make a lot of sense.

It'll probably still be on the BBCi player, might be worth a watch if you're undecided a bit.

Locally I'll be on the LibDems in my areawardthingy. If I can be arsed to vote that is. I'm very appreciative of my right to vote, but I've also got a right not to vote and stay in bed watching the Snooker all day.

I got a flyer thing through the door from my local Tory dude. He looks like William Shatner with a hint of Ginger. Libdems send me stuff all year round. Nice people. Probably.

 Eastcott Ward is a Lib Dem stronghold....it used to be Tory, until the joyous night we (that is Labour) ousted Mike Bawden.  I worked long and hard on that campaign....disappointing that its now Lib Dem land, but I can live with that..
