Andrew Fitton has said no to a return for Sam Parkin and asked us to stop living in the past.

Can someone set Fitton up with a user name and access rights to this forum, please?  He denies he reads internet forums, but he's clearly got his nose in the Adver site and he's taking the ill-informed drivel that he reads there as being representative of the views of the club's fans.

I don't know anyone that thinks that re-signing Parkin would be the best way to take the club forward.  It really bothers me that Fitton seems to think our fans are all fuckwits.

Just as important shouldn’t Malpas be the one telling us what players we are and are not looking at.

I realise that many of you weren't at the fans forum, but this is the source of the article.

I believe Malpas said he was not on his list of targets - i.e. the manager IS selecting the transfer targets.

He also likened the forum situation to Margaret Thatcher 'not reading the newspapers', just because he doesn't personally read them he knows what is being said Smiley

The whole article is based on answers to several questions asked at the Forum on Monday stitched together so it reads like an interview which its not. But he was responding to questions from the floor, not "fuckwits" on the Adver or any other site. And Malpas did initially answer the Parkin question and say that SSP was not on the list of players they were looking at. Don't slam them for the way the Adver have reported it which is so out of context that I can understand why people have found it misleading.

Not really...its the model, based on Europe, that chairmen or Directors of Football are involved in decisions on player recruitment.....AF obviously enjoys this part of it, he's in it for the football.  Look at the job Nicky Hammond has done for Reading.

Th emanager obviosly has an input, but MM's main job is surely to coach.

And see my answer above - MM did answer the question, AF made very clear that MM is in charge of player recruitment, he just expanded on it a bit. Don't construct a whole thread of hypothesis on the back of one piece of misleading reporting

Meh. I'm really not bothered if we dont sign parkin again.

They should be looking for the NEW Parkin, not the original, bald, injury prone one.

Fair enough, but I stand by the opinion that AF is quite hands on when it comes to player recruitment...quite rightly.   I'm not suggesting that he makes all the decisions, but rather he will be involved somewhere.

My original post on this thread was based on comments AF has made on a number of occasions recently.  This is not the first time he has commented that 'fans' (generic) are being unrealistic etc.

Completely take your point about the reporting of these comments, but the fact is that most supporters - and certainly those living outside the Swindon area - use the online facilities provided by the local press as their main source of info.  Of course we shouldn't trust everything we read, but it isn't easy sifting the bullshit from the coverage worth taking at face value.
