Some of the shit he gets isnt deserved

I disagree.  Constant underperforming deserves stick.  Not like he hasn't had enough chances to sort himself out.

Agree. He's had some decent perfromances but they have been few and far between. His comments before the Leeds game didn't do him many favours with the fans either.

The other players have had the same amount of time and most have shown some improvement, MacNamee, Commingues, even Paynter.  Don't see why McGovern is any different.

McGoverns had good games though, it was only last week he had a good game against Oldham!

He was good against Carlisle and excellent at home to Forest.

Good games too few and far between but he's had some games....

Someone tell me, who would you play in the right wing instead?

Commingues?

How many times?!!
If you take Commingues out of that defence our whole system falls apart! Yes he is perfectly capable of playing wide right but defensively it doesn't suit the rest of the team.

I seem to remember when he signed, he had a good start for us.  The Franchise fans (phlegm-laden spit) rated him and most Town fans throught we had ourselves a winner.

Remember Zaboub when he first signed?  Match winner.  Yes he blew hot & cold, but his early period in a Swindon shirt was a good one.

We used to joke that Swindon players became shit when they moved on to other clubs...Summerbee, Maskell, Horlock and (more recently) Parkin to name a few.  But now it's the reverse.  Players sign for us and they BECOME shit.

Ifil anyone?  You don't get a nickname like 'The Beast' unless you're worth it.  He was fantastic for us years ago.  Cureton has scored freely for just about every other club he's played for (and there have been a few) apart from us.

STFC.  Sign for us, and you'll be half the player you were by the end of the season.  And this isn't a Malpas bashing post.  It's been happening for a while.  Worrying.

Interesting points, but I'd take exception with a few.  Ifil for example has had spells where he's been very good, then spells where he's been very bad.  Early season he was VG now he's VB.

When Cureton pitched up he hadn't scored a league goal for a year...form he carried on with us....you could say good management by Iffy sending on loan to get some confidence, which he achieved....when he came back he did score some goals.

I take your general point though and put it down to the chronic instability at the club, which in part is why its important that Malpas gets some time to try and establish some continuity and stabilty.

A FRUSTRATED Jon-Paul McGovern admits Town's dismal run of results is not good enough for a squad he insists should be challenging for promotion.

A comprehensive 2-0 defeat at high-flying Doncaster Rovers last night left Town with just three wins on their travels all season, and McGovern knows there are no excuses.

Despite being outplayed for the majority of the game, Town actually created the better chances, but that will do little to ease the pain of more away day woe.

Skipper Hasney Aljofree will miss the next two games after seeing red for a professional foul, as Brian Stock's resulting penalty and Sean McDaid's first-half opener leaves Town floundering just seven points from the League One drop zone.

McGovern said: "We have had the better chances but it is another bad result and at the end of the day it is a game of results.

"It is not good enough and with the squad we have got here, the position I think it is a case of getting this season out of the way and making sure we start better next time.

"The squad we have got here should definitely be up there challenging for the play-offs but the results tell the story and we are not."

Maurice Malpas was left questioning his side's mentality away from home but McGovern believes there are some positives for the long term.

He said: "I think performance-wise, especially the last 10 games, we have performed but we are not getting the results and we are not scoring the goals.

"I think if you came to the game you can see we are getting better, despite what the results say. Hopefully it is a good base for next season.

"We are trying our best for Swindon Town, it is our job and we have to do our best for Swindon Town. There are a few of us who can do better though."

Yup and your one of them.

Back to the point - McGovern. I've seen him three times now, and he's failed to impress me on each occasion. I know there is a good player in there, but somehow the management or the player himself have yet to exploit it to its full potential.

I watched him quite closely second half against Oldham, and whilst he didn't have a bad game per se, I still felt he was playing within himself. With the right game plan, him and Commingues on the RHS could be equally effective as McNamee + decent LB on the LHS next season.

Stick with him, but he needs to raise him game to warrant auto selection (problem is right now, he has little competition for a place with Roberts injured).
