Oh God I had forgotten all that day, end of season game City had to win to get in the playoffs and we were already in them, nasty day, about 3,000+ town fans down there, lots of trouble, great game, nicely taken goal by Coyne in front of out fans in a 19,000+ crowd.

Great days.

One Gordon Owen, theres' only one Gordon Owen.
I was there - very nasty indeed. The Slave Traders did not take this one at all well. I thought The Fridge also took a few slaps. I know of Swindon fans who needed a police escort to their car over an hour after the game finished. Swindon had one hell of a mob that day but Brizzle had an even worse one.
It was, however, a great day out. Very hot and the pubs of Old Town were very busy that evening.

I was directly in line with Peter Coyne's volley, as it hit the post then went in. It was a glorious sunny day, and many people were not wearing much, and I remember, one Town fan, who was just wearing tracksuit bottoms, jumping on the railings to celebrate our equaliser, when a mate of his came up behind him, and pulled his tracksuit bottoms down, giving a passing female copper an eyeful !!!

As soon as Gordon Owen did his bit after the penalty was given after anothe Joe Jordan dive, I left early because I knew they'd be trouble after the game (well I was only 14!!!).

We won the play-offs and City had to stew another year.

The official attendance was 19,000 but it looked more like 30,000 to me.

One of my faves....I've always hated teh Shitheads more than O*frod.

Just knew the authorities would do nothing  about the attacks on our players...bunch of cunts.

I'm a bit ambivalent about their current situation,  if they go up, they'd surely challenge Derby for shitness, which would be funny.

I agree, but it is quite worrying to think that they could suddenly have millions of £££ pumped into them by the PL through a year of over-achievement  :?

I'd love to have been around to see that.  My dad always talks about the old days (back as far as the 60's) and the crowds etc.

Some of the worst trouble I have ever seen at football occurred that day, any Town fan seemed to be a target after the game. I ended up taking quite a beating next to the park behind the away end, being dressed as a viking hardly helped with trying to stay inconspicuous.  Not the smartest thing I've ever done. Doh

That season is hard to rival for the excitement and buzz around the club, the atmosphere at the ground for some of the bigger games was something that just hasn't been there for years now.
To temper that, some of violence at games against the likes of City, Gillingham, Middlesborough and Bournemouth was on scale that is hard to comprehend nowadays.

That was also the season we played Rovers at Ashton Gate, there seemed to be loads of Town fans there that day as well, If I remember rightly they gave us virtually the whole of the bank. And we won 4-3 after being behind most of the game, Bamber scoring a couple late on.
