aaaaaaaaaaaaanyone else think the fuzz were a bit OTT in defending some fire?

i don't claim to know all the ins and outs of the tibetan issue, however i can for sure spot a policeman jumping from a bicycle onto a protester back.

Terrible PR for the Chinky games, why would anyone want to see some second rate celebs/sportsmen running with a giant lighter, being surrounded by a dozen chinks in 1980's shell suits, and then them being surrounded by some MET 20 or so coppers, in the freezing cold.

The fire extinguisher idea was class, as was the fella who tried to cop a feel of Konnie Huq but got a handful of the flame instead.

Roll on the french protest attempts.

I was talking last night  to a fit youngish bird (mid 20's ) who went on this demo.   I was quite impressed as members of this generation  IMO seem to have no interest in politics....she explained to me her concern about China's human rights record.  I did point out that China's record in this department had been somewhat lacking for the last 2000 years, but not wanting to appear a Sino-apologist, I dropped the history lecture.

She was impressed though with my knowledge of the poetry and music of Leonard Cohen  Cool

Sport has nothing at all to do with politics - to suggest athletes boycott the games is a joke

Agree. A small bunch of fuds tried to disrupt the Scotland v Israel u21 game a few years ago on the basis that "the palyers would have had to have done national service in the israeli army"

Twats!

Keep politics out of sport!

I'd imagine you're familiar with the works of Leni Riefenstahl....see Triumph of the Will and Olympia.

The clips on the telly this morning reminded me of Monty Python...

China's record of human rights issues has been dreadful for ages, not just since the latest wave of media coverage from Tibet. Surely it would have made more sense to protest BEFORE they agreed to give the games to Beijing, rather than wait for them to start building stadia etc?!
