there was an australian called bradman who averaged 99.4 in tests, the next best is about 60. to counteract him in 1932/33 series england decided to bowl 'bodyline' ie. continual bouncers with a distinct field. larwood who was very fast carried it out to perfection and england won the ashes. various rules were changed because of it and the aussies are still bitter to this day.
sorry for spewing out this in this forum.
Exactomundo.....Larwood was immense totally destroyed the so called tough Aussies and then was ostracised by the spineless complient establishment just for carrying out his Captain's orders......English cricket has never fully recovered...the winning mentality was tossed away in favour of MCC poofters, with a couple of notable exceptions like Ray Illingworth in 70/71 even then the Aussies cried because John Snow kept hitting them on the head......of course it was fine when Lilian Thompson did it.
