Given how badly we defended yesterday I would say 4-3-3 is a huge risk unless you play 3 defensive midfielders and use two forwards as wingers in a cross between 4-3-3 and 4-5-1, Chelsea stylee.

If going for 4-3-3 I'd have
Code:
              Brez

Smith   Ifil   Aljofree   Commingues

       Timlin  Easton  Pook

Cox                          Sturrock
             Paynter

I'd be concerned about protection for the full backs though....

Brez

Smith
Ifil
Aljofree
Comminges

JPM
Easton
Peacock
Timlin
McNamee

Paynter

settle down and give nothing stupid away, then when we're still level bring on Cox and/or Corr.

Safety first I think would be the best way forward.

Its a bit shit and like you said id normally be set against it....

.....again maybe its me but we seem to shipping goals left right and centre at the moment and that needs to stop.

Dell was abuse for it, but we really do need to look over our shoulder. We arent on good form and we've only got 48 points. Teams have gone down with 48 points and even as many as 51 points.

I know thats only three off and we have games against Gillingham and Port Vale left but they are the type of games we fuck up.

I didnt want to drop Timlin or Easton, but I think Peacock is a must in the middle we miss his presence.

If it wasnt for the fact we arent perfectly save id have tried him at centre back for a game to see how he does.

Plus if you've got one holding you could have the two midfielders bombing into the box which we dont do enough of.

So often Blair Sturrock or Cox gets the ball out wide and no one is in the box. Timlin, Easton and Peacock or all capable of bombing forward and getting their head on a McNamee cross.

I think we need to go compact and stop letting teams play against us.

As I said once we've held the other team then we can switch to 4-4-2 and go for and to be perfectly honest right now I'd take nice boring compact shit football draws....because the season still isnt over yet and we need more points....

We're conceding from set pieces and crosses though, I don't see how 4-5-1 would help that. I guess it would help to prevent the wings getting too exposed, but McNamee and McGovern aren't especially brilliant going back.

If we did do 4-5-1 I'd prefer Corr to Paynter. McNamee's crosses need to be put to good use. Peacock would have to go forward a lot more than he does (i.e. getting into the box, not outside of it).

I see your point re: set pieces....but if we pack the middle then hopefully we'd stop southend playing and getting it outwide to win the free kicks or corners in the first place.....its alot of ifs and buts but we need to stop giving away free kicks in dangerous positions which with Ifil we wont....so we need to stop teams getting into those positions. Packing the middle might just do it.

Corr maybe, but he hasnt played regular football in ages and it always injured....if he'd be playing every week id be inclinded to agree as he's taller and better in the air

However Paytner will work harder than Corr and is better built. He'll hold the ball up and is still pretty handy in the air.

Peacock is very good in the air, so with 3 in the middle he will have the license to get into the box when the wingers have it (whether he used his license or not! I dont know) and will hopefully chip in with a few more because we're awful for packing the box when the balls out wide.

We should drop Ifil then

...but we have no one to replace him with and a Aljofree/Vincent CB pairing will be too slow.

Ifil has alot of good qualities dont get me wrong, but has a nasty habbit of giving away free kicks on the edge of the box.

Its a shame, because Kanyuka looked like he was going to get a run in the team but got injured.

Its a shame we arent 6 points better off because we'd be safe and have half a dozen games to try new players and new things....

Drop him or Aljofree for the young lad morrison. We have nothing to play for now so we should try the youngsters .

...but...we do still have something to play for. 48 points guarentees you nothing.

Teams have gone down with more than 48 points before.

Win our next 2 and we'll be fine.

Like I said if we had 52+ points id be in agreement.

No team has ever gone down with 52 points....people have gone down with 51.....so it isnt over yet.

Esp, with Cheltenham and even Gillingham picking up some results lately....

I would defintely play Paynter and Corr upfront, keep to the system players understand 4-4-2.
Cox who I rated very highly whilst he was on loan has been a major disappointment now he has a contract and he needs a reality check, he is not an automatic choice.
Sturrock has done well, but is a bench player, and a very good servant this season when coming off the bench.
Peacock and Easton in the middle, a must - JPM and McN out wide. The defence, our strength last season needs a shake up, and of course Brez in goal, not Smith.
We have the players here to be in the top 8, about time they started to show their class.
