What the hell has charisma ever had to do with being a decent manager?

Granted Maurice may have been to the same Scotch charm school as Moyes, Ferguson and Sturrock but in terms of being dour and Scotch he’s in good company when it comes to successful managers.  I would actually say when it comes to his post match interviews he’s articulate and refreshingly open when it comes to taking it on the chin and doesn’t isolate individuals for criticism.  A refreshing change from a half hour Sturrock mumble or an Andy King rant.

The biggest problem I have is the too many cooks scenario with Malpas Byrne and Williams - all of whom seem clueless

Added to that Malpas' lack of charisma and tactical awareness and his general poor decisons its no wonder the players are wondering whats happening.  I know that some of them arent really "getting" Malpas.

Sturrock always looked like a manager you didnt mess with - he knew what he wanted to get out of the team but sometimes the players didnt produce but he definately got the best of the players.

Since Malpas' arrival as an example Ifil has gone off the boil just to name one player

Also his team selections are very questionable - and he changes his mind on players and lineup by the week.

I think weve given him long enough personally - he seems to be the new Iffy

What an absolute load of twaddle just what players did Sturrock get the best out of? Yes Ifil was consistent but Roberts & Zaboub were just as patchy in and out of form all the time as was the majority of the first team squad.  Different players thrive under different managers look at Roberts under Wise when he got additional responsibility and was treated like a star he thrived but under the next 3 managers hes struggled again.  Fatters the Sturrock era was certainly not a golden one he struggled to get us promoted from league 2 and this season was pretty appaling also, I did'nt enjoy his football and certainly don't look back on his management fondly.

I look back on Sturrock fondly, I think it's a shame his "era" coincided with the takeovers, I think that if he had been here without all the takeover goings on, Sturrock could have repeated his Plymouth feat.

Don't get me wrong I too didn't really enjoy most of his football, although there were definite highs, but the bloke got us the results we needed.

Agree 100% McSporran. For me, Sturrock was the perfect manager for this club. As time goes on, the more gutted I actually feel about him going (in saying that I am not knocking MM) If only the takeover could have gone ahead a couple of months earlier I'm sure he would have stayed. It was just very unfortunate that the Plymouth job came up when STFC's future was so uncertain and I can't blame him for for going when he did. Not when it was Plymouth which he obviously has such an affinity with, combined with the utterly dire straights we were in at that particular time.

As for all the pissing and moaning about Malpas, it really needs to stop. It is not doing anyone any good. Maybe it will turn out that MM hasn't got what it takes but all I know is that over the years, I have seen far too many great managers get off to really rocky starts to start slating Malpas (Ferguson was not liked at Man U for a good two or three years and when O'Neill first took over at Leicester, I can remember the fans actually invading the Board Room for show down talks or something like that.)

Sometimes you really just have too stick with things. If Andrew Fitton has anything about him (and he has shown that he does) There is no way he will get rid of MM in the summer so let's just knock all that stuff on the head can we? At least for the rest of the season? Quick fixes and popular choices are not the answer. Exhibit A) Newcastle United. Let's all just chill for a bit.

And as for the booing of Phil Smith...don't get me started...every one of those mother fuckers who did that should be fucking executed.

Malpas has got Paynter playing in good form. Comminges seems to be playing with just as much confidence. McNamee is a prospect. Kanyuka if they can get him fit will be decent.

Those are the positives. I won't post any negatives because that wasn't the original question

Our record under Malpas is: Played 11 Won 4 Drawn 3 Lost 4 which is mid-table form. So pretty much what the doctor ordered.
