so what do you recon STFC should do about this parkin malarchy?

1. sell him in the summer for reported 450k and let rebuild for life after parkin

2. keep parkin the whole of next year with the slight possibilty of him signing a contract mid season, but most probably seeing him walk for nothing at the end of it

3. keep him next year but try and offload him in the january transfer window for some sort of fee.

i think they all have their advantages and disadvantages.
i see myself leaning towards 3, because if we are top at christmas he'd probably sign a new contract. BUT chances are, we we wont be, and we'll get about 100k if that from cardiff or someone in the transfer window. also means we'd have to try and replace him mid season and means a new strikerwill have to settle in instantly rather than have a pre season with the squad.
i dont want to see him go for nothing which he will if we hang on till next may and we arent right up there. but it does mean another season of parkin's goals and parkin not leaving this summer might give everyone a lift around the place.

for me it's number one, just try and get as much cash as we can, he's had three quality season and will be rembered for years to come especially if we get a healthy sum which king can play with a little. i think if we sell him we can all focus on our settled squad without worrying about him leaving anymore...

well there's my thoughts on it, what about you?

Logically, selling him now for the highest price would be the best idea but I doubt we'll see any of that cash anytime soon, so I'd rather try and keep him and see how we do next season instead, albeit at the risk of losing him for peanuts.

I don't think there's going to be much chance of it happening though.

Think we have to put a lot of faith in King's judgement on this one.  Fucked.

The only way Parkin will consider a new contract is if we re-build over the summer and kick the season off on a flyer.  I think King knows as much that's pretty much the grunts he's making in interviews at the moment.

If the right club come in for him the summer he's going to go, no doubt about that at all.  However it's not going to be to a team that are not challenging in the Championship and possibly a bias towards a southern based club.

I certainly wouldn’t heed too much to the hype at the moment.  It’s all been said before ten times over and how many bids have we received?  A piss take from Hull and one from Burnley that was initially reported as a loan approach.  You look at the state of clubs and 350k is a big outlay even for larger Championship sides, I don’t think we will see half as many bids as has been rumoured.

I have to go with a wait and see policy.  If King has the funds and the ability to re-build a serious squad then risk a January transfer window if there is a solid commitment to consider a new contract given the clubs start to the season.

If not and the budget really is as bad as reported then sell, sell, sell.

Comes down to King’s judgement really and hopefully he will get the call spot on.

sell him now, otherwise we will all end up hating him if he moves at the end of next season for nothing. if he stays we will end up having a danny invinciblile situation where he knows we are shit & not going up, so he will just laze around until the end of his contract.

plus we will get more money for him now - if he goes in january clubs will know we are desperate to get a fee for him so will offer peanuts knowing we will have to accept

I don't see Sam shirking responsibility to the players, his employer, and the fans really.  I've got too much faith in his professionalism to to envisage this happening, even if he were to say he was going to leave 2 months before the season's end.

I agree with you Mr Tom.

I don't think Parkin is the kind of guy to give anything less than 100%, even on a bad day.

However I think it's best that he leaves now for as much money as possible. We have two capable strikers and King may be able to add another before the start of next year, givin the new guy a chance to settle in at the club.

Plus Parkin's talent would be absolutely wasted with us next year!

I would like to take a risk and keep him for next season. If we are outside of the play offs by next Jan, then sell him (even if it is for less).
It would keep most fans hopes up for next season.

But with the financial state of the club as it is, we can't afford to turn our backs on 300k!

Unfortunately you are right Reeves.  We are not likely to get any decent players to push us towards promotion and parkin can not do it on his own!

we cant afford to turn away any money. most clubs budget for mid-table and because of this, i cant see us mounting a promotion challenge. funnily enough i had a quick look at the financial reports of a few years back today. anybody who says they are incomplete and barely make any sense are absolutely right!

What eras and any linkage chief?

This pre-season is going to be all about King.  Not only is he the man to do the signing but he is going to have to but his testicles on the line and argue the toss over wages with the board.

Devlin was a footballing man and managed to do quite well barring last year when he was on the way out.  King is going to have to come up against Sandy Gray who if Carling made incompetant accountants they would probably have copyrighted Gray years ago.
