Football isnt like other occupations though is it. For starters its a sport and its competitive.
The players should want to go out and win every game, they should feel that way regardless of who they are playing, who the manager is, where they are playing or how much they are earning.
You shouldnt need someone else to motivate you when your up against competition, because you should always want to succeed. Should yes of course they should but thats not always the case is it. When they don't perform thats where Malpas comes in and kicks them up the ass.

If the pre-match atmosphere in the dressing room is shit then surely thats down to the manager, not saying it was but they certainly didnt look up for it at the start.

See you all at the Leeds game then. Can't wait... The players will probably all give the performances of their lives for that game. Doubt it, Im going!

So, in that case the poor performance today isnt soley down to Malpas' motivational skills then.
The players werent up for it enough and thats their fault.
Malpas certainly should have kicked them all square in the balls at half time....but if you cant motivate yourself then its difficult for someone else to do it.

to put it mildly if its about motivation and the management then malpas could get man united relegated. how can he blame the players he sounds to much like macmahon blaming the players under sturrock we would have battered walsall in the 2nd half today or at least put up a fight.

Im not saying everything is down to Malpas at all. Im saying that to a degree he should be contributing to their motivation overall.

Malpas isn't the motivator anyway, Byrne seems to be the one barking the orders all the time.

I agree - however I personally think the players look shakey playing for him - exactly like the Andy King dys, where he used to publicily slate the players. Jerel Ifil and Hasney were immense at the beginning of the season, but lately have looked a wee bit shakey at times.

When was the last time Phil Smith started for us... the 3-0 home defeat to Brighton. I'm seeing a pattern here. Smithy out!

I listened to the Malpas interview myself, with the intent of knowing wether or not he will blame the players. And I seem to remember him using the words "We" and "Myself", and he even appeared to question whether ot not it was his fault.
I also used to have an intense dislike for David Byrne for the way that he used to put the blame solely on the players but I think that most would agree that he won us over in the end.
I agree with D.V. to a degree that a pro footballer playing in a pro match should be enough motivation in itself.
As Malpas said, if we go to Oldham, play well and get a result then it can be put down to a bad day at the office. But too many performances where the players dont seem to know what their job is then the blame will have to lay with the manager surely. It doesn't matter if you are managing a football team, an office or a fucking oil rig the if the players/staff turn up not knowing what is expected of them then there is a problem.
My cup is half full.
