it would be better for the town to stay put....why?...well swindon play at home no more than twice a fortnight and during the summer months the county ground is the most silent area in swindon. If the ground was moved and say someone like waitrose moved there the locals wouldnt know what hit them 7 days a week with customers and deliveries.Ithink if i lived there i would rather the devil i know,a busy day once, maybe twice a fortnght, and a peacefull summer maybe alot better situation than they think,i for one would like the county ground to be developed, not many new grounds create a good atmosphere, obviously local residents need to be aware of ground improvements, and could help the club rather than hinder it.Maybe if i lived in that area i would feel differently, wondered what other fans feel about staying put or making a fresh start.

And a point that the local residents made repeatedly when we discussed the prospects of ground redev with them - most of them were quite happy with the club where it is, albeit with some gripes about traffic management, litter etc, and would certainly rather that than the land being used for more housing, shopping centre etc

So in your opinion Paul if the club wanted to redevelop the ground there wouldnt be too much of problem with the locals........so why move then, cant see any point in moving,if the men we got on board should be able to fund any ground development, without having to put houses and casinos etc as added extras like past people who wanted to make a quick buk and didnt relly care about the ground.....redevelop ground.....easy eh?...me thinks not somehow, the council will probably find a greater spotted mudlark and put a protection order in place!!!

I don't get the residents who complain about it, the grounds been there for well over 100 years. If you don't want the trouble of living next to a football stadium, surely the best option would be not to move into a house next to a football stadium?!

good points leefer.nut fanss cannot blames the council for the fuck ups with the past boards.their demands were ridiculous and the council have more to think of than stfc.
i'm sure with the right working ideas the council would work in tandem with the new board.
if it enhances the area then they'd  by mad not to

although the same thing applies if, say, we stayed put but built a casino - residents would then get 24-7 traffic and disturbance.  they would want the club to stay where it is and no development, i would have thought

That's true, although if a new development includes leisure facilities would they think the same? What with the Oasis closing down there'll be hardly any facilities anywhere, so to have some right on their doorstep is surely something the locals would be in favour of?

Well, quite. But who said we were moving? You seem to be tilting at a windmill that hasn't been built yet (or even put forward to planning)

What we've heard thus far and I've no reason as yet to disbelieve Mr Fitton, is that  they're not property developers, but more interested in the football.

The youth development thing seems to be AF's baby....for this reason, it would seem that some sort of tidy up off the CG rather than a move would be likely.

Having said that,  I wouldn't be surprised if a very large rabbit was pulled out of the hat leaving us all a bit  :jaw1:

Personally, I really hope that we redvelop the CG rather than move. The ground, along with the fans, is the true heart and soul of the club. I think it's very sad when clubs move away from the centre of the town to some non-descript business park miles from any pubs/chip shops/train stations. The examples are numerous - Reading, Bolton, Stoke, Derby and on and on....One of the many things I like about the Emirates Stadium is the fact that it is literally only just around the corner from Highbury. When you travel there on the tube you still get off at Arsenal station on the Picadilly Line. The countless souvenir stalls and burger vans that have been there for years are still there. The supporters social club situated in one of the terraced houses at the end of one of the roads opposite the old ground is still there. The ground had become an integral and vital part of the area over the years and it would have been a crying shame if they has moved out to some souless brownfield site 'within easy reach' of the M25 and M1. I'm not comparing us to Arsenal but the same principal applies to STFC. The area would be all the poorer for it if the club moved the outskirts of town.

If anything does happen regarding development, I would definitely like to see the County Ground redevelpoed rather than have to move. The ideal thing for me would be to build a bigger Town End, and perhaps a bigger Arkell's Stand, and then a modern day replica of the SB so that we could still laugh at the away fans getting drenched
