Allen made available for loan

Starlet: Chris Allen
Maurice Malpas is ready to send Swindon Town midfielder Chris Allen on loan to aid his development - but he remains part of his plans.

Devizes-born Allen is yet to start a game under the new Robins boss, who is preparing for the visit of Northampton Town on Saturday.

And Malpas believes, with a lack of reserve team games, the 18-year-old could benefit from a loan spell.

"Chris is one of those boys who has been on the bench a few times and I would let him go on loan to get some experience," he said.

"He played very well in the reserve game last week but it is all about him getting match time.

"People like Jack Smith and him need match practice but Chris also needs it to improve and develop his game."

But even if the youth team product does temporarily leave Town, Malpas will welcome him back with open arms.

"He will be getting an opportunity to play in the first team between now and the end of the season," he said.

"He is definitely part of my plans and he is the type of player we are looking for. As a midfielder he has to be creative."

Allen could have extra competition for places before the transfer window shuts at midnight tonight with Malpas targeting a creative midfielder from a Championship club.

Surpsied at Blackburn, surely hei s not going to get close to the 1st team, unless he takes a short term loan later in the season.

Perhaps he can audition for creative midfielder?

Seriously, didn't he play midfield before? I thought he had one game for us early season there, and scored a couple.

As the situation is reversed I've changed the title.

Blackburn off on loan until the end of the season to Weymouth. Looks like goodbye Chris.

Was he really not any good?

Agree. Had we been in League 2 it would have been a different story I am sure. He looked more than capable at Wembley vs. Exeter.

Good luck to him. Didn't really look comfortable at this level, but at the same time his attitude seemed spot on.
