are you accessing BT email on a sky broadband connection?

if so, many ISPs only allow access to the SMTP server if you're on their network.

Sonic, its my own webname (atclettings) but as I usually use BT to connect my email server is set up to use its smtp? Its nothing major I realised I can save all emaisl to draft and send when I get home?

I guess this is a normal thing on different broadbands

Yes, as Sonic said if you are using a different  ISP (Sky) for the physical connection then usually the outgoing server (BT) won't let you send email, but will let incoming messages in.
