maybe won't be done today.

ANDREW Fitton has warned time is "the enemy" as the clock continues to tick ominously on Swindon Town's future.

The Wiltshire businessman revealed progress has been made in his bid to purchase the County Ground outfit, but admitted the sands of time are quickly running out.

Fitton was due back from America today in another attempt to complete the protracted takeover but admitted to growing increasingly frustrated as legal issues continued to hinder the process.

He was unwilling to put any deadline on when his patience would run out, but with a week's family holiday already booked for Sunday morning, the Swindon Advertiser understands the next 48 hours could be crucial.

In echoes of developments a fortnight ago it appears Fitton is dashing across the Atlantic in a bid to sew up the deal. But this time it appears to be the last chance saloon for these talks to come to a resolution.

Town remain confident a deal will be concluded today, having already met the soon-to-be new chief executive, but the longer the saga rumbles on the more uncertainty reappears on the horizon.

Fitton said: "There is no update at all, it is very, very frustrating. People are working hard from both parties but at the moment it is not fast enough.

"Without upsetting anyone or scaring them, time is our enemy and yes I suppose it is running out because people have other commitments and Christmas is coming.

"The deadline is fast approaching because there soon just won't be the time. I am not saying progress has not been made but it is just not getting done fast enough at the moment."

The complications surround a number of technical issues', including development rights, with Fitton admitting it has been a "nightmare" deal to try to complete.

He said: "It is just so complicated. Normally you would not buy the company, you would buy the assets but we could not do that.

"Also the development rights are not owned by the club. So all issues like this need to be resolved.

"It would be ideal if everyone got in a room and beat the deal out. That for some reason is not happening.

"I am not going to put any deadline on it but, yes, time is of the essence. We have to make sure this deal is right."

While both parties' lawyers were working hard to try and produce a swift resolution, Fitton has hailed the contribution by staff at SN1 at keeing the club running through adversity.

He said: "The guys at the club have been absolutely immense from the top to the bottom. From Bob Holt all the way down.

"Bob is just hanging on until the takeover goes ahead and he has been absolutely honest. I think he deserves some credit from the way he has stuck in there, I think they all do."

Perhaps those above BS Bob haven't been quite so 'immense'. I'm no Holt fan, but at the end of the day selling the club isn't in his hands.

If this takeover fails, it'll get nasty.

Fuck off fatbury what do you want the bloke to do?

If you were trying to buy something off someone up a pub, you're hardly gonna try and piss the fella off BEFORE the deal is done.  A little buttering up in the press won't go a miss.  Normal business behaviour.

For the love of god Sonic ban this spoon for a 4th time.  Fatbury are you honestly suggesting hes never been trying to buy the club just buying the old board time? because if you are then you are more of a spasticated muppet than I thought, your theory makes no sense.

Absolutely I'm shitting myself. The consequences of it not going through are too big not to. It may all be in hand, but I'll be shitting it until the deal is done and the creditors are paid !
