After he held talks with the FA today, do we think Capello is the right man?

Personally, i think he'd be a great appointment. His record at club level is phenomenal, he has a bullish personality (something i feel several of the England players need) and is at the right age for an international job and is not likely to fuck off at the first chance of a top club job.

My only qualm would be the apparent defensive style he employs, which certainly goes against the grain of how the game is played in the Premiership. How will the likes of Micah Richards and Ashley Cole (assuming they'll be picked) take to calming the attacking nature of their play?

On CV alone, I felt Lippi would've been the top candidate, having just won the WC with Italy, but his lack of basic English makes Fabio first choice for me.

Thoughts?

Dunno, think he could command respect, which i feel is important, but can't see the football being good or conducive to playing the players apparently limited strengths.

I will keep an open mind though because i disliked Ericsson's appointment quite early on, but in hind sight and in light of how well he's doing at Man City, i was wrong.

does he speak english? i didn't think he did.

i watched a lot of real madrid games under capello last season and he's a bit like sven in that he picks a tactic and sticks to it. flat back four, two holding midfielders and the rest he sort of makes up as he goes along. he didn't curb roberto carlos' attacking tendencies either, so perhaps cole and richards will cope.

it's dull to watch but it's effective.

Yay but I feel he's going to have to hit the ground at a sprint to win some of the players round especially given his tendency to drop players against the grain.

That’s no criticism of his management style his record speaks for its self but given some of the Premiership primadonas if they start throwing their toys out of the pram from the start he could struggle to win them back round

My main worry is we end up like the Scotch under Vogts but I’m sure he’ll grind the results out like he does and he’ll be the tabloid queen for a few months until he shags Ulrikakakakakaaaaaaaaaaa

I was under the impression that Capello's English was passable, while Lippi's was almost non-existant. Apologies if that's incorrect.

Edit: Thinking about it, his first competitive game in charge won't be for 9-10 months, so plenty of time for him to brush up on the lingo. Which defeats my argument about Lippi completely Smiley

If he can learn English then a big yes, even though hes not English he is the best candidate available.

The language barrier does concern me though.

Anybody, even Kingy, would be better than McClaren!!  Capello's track record is first class, at least he won't have Downing as the first name on the team sheet! :old:

his football isn't the most entertaining, but he's a winner which is all that really matters. how long before the press start knocking his tactics then  :-))(

The appointment of Capello (which is looking likely according to the beeb) has actually got me kind of excited. For so long I've felt little more than apathy towards england games but the prospect of having a manager with such a pedigree is a step towards re-igniting my interest.

I'll give him a Yay - we haven't exactly been that entertaining anyway, hoofing it long for Crouch at the merest hint of a set back.  The thing that's pissed me off the most is the apparent lack of any tactical plan half the time and Capello will certainly sort that out.  If he can get a team that creates a platform for Rooney etc to shine then great stuff.  Also if we're not playing at 100 miles an hour, we might not get knackered with 20 minutes to go and let goals in by not closing people down
