"Nijholt, Ling and Hoddle (all of whom were great players, btw)."
Can't agree with that statement, Hoddle was a great yes, Ling was a very good player for us. Nijholt was alright he did a job, but was no where near greatness, imo. OK...agreed. I wasn't using 'great' as in Cruyff being a great, or Gielgud. I meant he was quite good for us and played at a high level.

Don't know who will be manager to be honest,
All though I am confident the Martin Ling will have been watching the takeover developments rather closely, and I suspect a few more managers will have been.
After all, any club with a premiership history, with a good squad in place and transfer funds available would be tempting to a fair few experienced managers out there. In todays transfer environment being able to purchase the players that you want could be a novelty to many.
I reckon that quite a few surprising names might come into the fold within the next few days, provided that the takeover goes through of course.

"with a good squad in place"
I disagree with this statement.
I honestly don't think we have a decent squad. I was thinking about this this morning (couldn't sleep). I was pondering IF the takeover goes ahead I wonder which players will be out the door.
Surely if this consortium has a few bob behind them they'll be looking at strengthening our rather weak squad.

Although of course considering my location I can't confess to know better then anyboday else. That aside though, transfer funds being available will still make us very attractive to quite a few managers out there!

our fuly fit first 11 is good. but center midfield apart, we have absolutley no back-up cover should we get injuries or suspension, which explaisn why we're so shit at the moment

A while ago i would have disagreed with you, but i've also started to lean this way recently. Sturrock didn't really get any superb players. Most blow hot and cold, alot, and at best just average. I do feel we have quite a strong squad (in terms of depth), but there's a lot of very average players making up the numbers. Amusingly, some of our strongest players, in my eyes, were here before Sturrock even came in: Peacock, Roberts, Smith, Smith, Pook, Ifil, Vincent, Brezovan... Some were also involved in the relegation. :?

I reckon that STFCLady would be a shit manager. I think I'd tend to agree! Personally I'd prefer Ling to Nijholt but I'll support 100% whoever is appointed until I have a reason not to.

What irritates me is the obsession with signing up former players. Why?! If Nijholt hadn't played for us nearly 15 years ago he would be just another Dutch manager managing a Dutch side that no one had heard of. But because he scored a belter in the home game against Man United in 1994 he's suddenly a contender for our manager's job.
Makes no sense at all. I'm sure Luc's managerial record is fine, but I hope we cast the net a little wider than Nijholt, Ling and Hoddle (all of whom were great players, btw). Difference is, Nijholt has been involved at the top level in Holland. Including running one of the best youth systems in the country and assisting one of the best managers in the world in the UEFA cup final. word. spot on my friend! ling would be my ideal choice but nijholt would be a very good appointment in my opinion.

LUC! LUC! LUC! Are you really Luc Nijholt or somefink? He is to the "We need Luc" thread, what OneAndrewFitton is to the Boardroom section. I think they're stuck in these comfort zones they exclusively post in. Come outside, it's nice and warm Devonshire_red.
