can someone with a bit of knowledge help me out here.
As many will know i got divorced this year and also have an operation on my knee which kept me off work for almost 6 weeks.
these things coupled together finacially was a strain so i cut my mortgage payments by half.
now with the house selling me and the ex are in arrears on the mortgage (which isn't a problem with Abbey) but it'll be cleared soon.
the problem now is my ex is trying to get a mortgage and the mortgage advisor is saying cos were in arrears she can't have one??!! even though we're making over payments to pay it back and also the account will be cleard in a months time.
is there anything she can do to get one or who would be the best people to speak too.
p.s. why i'm trying to help her fuck knows but thats the difference between being nice and being a cunt

This would be because your Mortgage company has registered the arrears with one or all of the credit search agencies like Equifax or Experian. If they (mortgage co) so desire they can easily change that for you as they ultimately are responsible for providing those agencies with the information. I had a problem with a few payments a number of years ago with a credit card but due to a long relationship they never registered a missed payment (checked my credit file a few months later and all showed as paid on time).
Even if they insist on it staying there then there are companies available who will lend, just at a much higher rate.

i spoke to Abbey and they said nothing is registered on our credit file with regard to missed payments. only shows arrears.
would they be able to remove those arrears or not?

don't see why not, after all, it's them telling Experien at al that you are in arrears. I'd imagine being arrears on the mortgage has quite an impact on your credit score though. At the end of the day it's down to Abbey what information they choose to disclose about your finances to such agencies.
If you use something like moneysupermarket.com for a quick mortgage search, I'm sure they ask a series of questions that give an idea of who would accept you and who wouldn't. Not 100% accurate but gives an indication. I know I went through a period where no products matched my rating!!! but it appears I have improved recently. Ultimately it might e worth getting in touch with a Mortgage Broker.

Can't help on the mortgage front, but I must say mate that you are a man of some integrity to be helping your ex after a divorce.
I hope that she appreciates that.

If it was all with the co-operation of Abbey i.e. a proper 'payment holiday' then they shouldn't really have marked your credit file like that.
Like Rob's suggested, speak to Abbey and explain the situation.

i'll give them a ring.
and also tell her to speak to them.
as Deano said they are trying to get a 100% mortgage which no one is giving at the moment so they'd struggle as it is without these arrears
