The underdog, I love seeing a team like Northern Ireland do well, hardly any household names do so well. Brilliant work rate, saying that I think they'll get gubbed tonight.
Also I haven't had to endure newspaper column, television minutes/hours full of Northern Irish team news etc. Unlike the other nation you mention.

Tbf, if you live in a foreign country there's no point complaining about the amount of press coverage that nations team gets. I expect the Scottish press went to town last week...........

Quite obviously since the Act of Union, england is not a foreign country to Scotland and vice versa.
And sorry mate but the BBC is not English news, it's meant to be for the Great British people.
Finally I'm not making a big deal out of it, I just choose not to watch england matches.

Their own government, different laws and fervent nationalism (Which annoyingly seems to be ok in Scotland and Wales, but not England). As for the BBC, surely even you would agree that England is more important to a much larger percentage of the UK population than Scotland or Wales and therefore gets much more coverage? Finally if we are all one big country, why do you find it so hard to cheer on your English countrymen? P.S You even find it difficult to start 'England' with a capital 'E', you've got it bad

Iv'e met ton's of people from all over the world on my travel's, and the nationailty that I have got on with the most is by far Is the Scot's (Excusing the Brit-nationality thing).
Just a shame that the sweaty socks don't have enough to give us some real sports rivalry innit!!

P.S You even find it difficult to start 'England' with a capital 'E', you've got it bad I've been spelling england like that for ages now(you are the first to pick up on it though - well done). For the love of God, football is a game, it's a bit of fun. england are a local rival to Scotland, and as such I like to see you lot struggle. I honestly don't understand why a number of english people have difficulty realising this. Hertha, when was the last time you saw a political post from me regarding devolution, do you know my views on devolution?? No you don't . I'm not saying we one big country, we are a collective of two countries, a principality and a province. The coverage Northern Ireland have received this last week has been pretty poor. They had about 1 minute on football focus on Saturday which is crap, even by BBC's standards. Yes population does come into it, but the sun rarely shines on Scotland's arses so a bit of decent coverage wouldn't go a miss when it does. However england's behind's are bathed in glory all year round according to some of the media. And that's about all folks!! Sorry for the length of "my piece".

Government centred in the south east making all the decisions, population stacks odds in favour of england, it's big brother little brother, I used to love beating my brother at sport, didn't happen that often but when it did - good times!! If it was a level playing field then the rivalry wouldn't be that intense. On a personal level english and Scottish people get on fine, in my experience, good and bad in both nationalities.

Ok Jan I'm not really bothered about whether the Scots, or Irish, or Welsh want England to do well or not. I just wanted to waste some time until I left for the pub. I know you want us to do well really though......................

On a final note I did read a sporting letter on teletext today
"Why should the Scots, Welsh and Irish all get behind the england football team, the england fans don't".
Thought that was pretty good.

P.S. The "my GF won't let me" excuse is equally bad if not worse, cos' as I said my misses is gonna be cheering on the lions, AND SHE AIN'T EVEN ENGLISH.
FACT

Thought that was pretty good. the England fans do get behind England, however just because I'm English doesnt mean I should be an England fan and give a toss about the national team.
