Quote from: "bbc sport"
Richard Varden, prosecuting, said the earliest date a trial could be held was 30 June next year.

He added: "I realise it seems a long way away although it's a straightforward allegation, there is an additional factor in that the defendant is a Premiership footballer."

So it's delayed because of the football season, let's make 2 assumptions. England Qualify for Euro 2008, Barton makes the squad, when will the trial be then?

Cool, so if I do something bad enough to warrant a courtcase I can just say 'well I'm commited to being out of the country for 6 months, can we do it when I get back?'

Bristol Shiitty didn't have the luxury of holding on to their players (too right!!) while they were locked up why should another team/player be any different just because it's the Premiership we're talking about?
