I see you have missed the point then.

a player supposedly nearing match fitness.........2 days prior to a matchday (on a hypothetical basis).......

others ackonowledging his behaviour and associating it directly to STFC.....  Not good press.

he's not the first and he won't be the last.

too much free time, too much money, too much ego...apparently they mix well with alcohol.

personally, so long as they don't turn up hungover/pissed for a match i'm not terribly bothered but that's my humble opinion.

Agreed. As it doesn't effect his progression/fitness/game I don't care what they get upto. Everyone has a few too many now and again.

Oh and its not like he's out every week like some players.

You see I always disagree in this discussion with the opinion they should be allowed to go out and drink.

When given the privelige (yes thats right PRIVELIGE) to get paid to play football you should be looking after yourself, not getting wrecked mid week especially when your returning to fitness.

Yes its normal for everyday people to go out and get drunk but when your profession is based on your fitness, diet and maintaining a good image for your club its hardly oh well cant blame him hes just unwinding and relaxing.

One of the whole reasons of my dislike for Pook besides the fact hes an awful footballer is most weeks hes in the Spot strutting around using the fact hes a pro footballer as a chat up line, players with ego's on the lash every week are one of my pet hates in the modern game, IMO its NOT ACCEPTABLE!!

Rant over, I shall climb off my soap box now  :soap:

I'm with Lady on this one, Saturday nights should be a pro footballers night out injured or not.  As a team mate I would not want to hear about my club captain out on a thursday night getting slaughtered.

I have no problem with the lads letting their hair down on a Saturday night, win, lose or draw, as everyone's entitled to go out and have a few (or a lot).

But mid week drinking when you are a PROFESSIONAL athlete should not be tolerated.  So if Pookie picks up a hamstring knock and is out for a month no one would be pissed off if they saw him up MacKenzies shit faced on a thursday night making a fool out of himself?

(before I get stick I only selected Pook as he was the first player I thought of - worryingly).

I only really posted this as I think Pook takes far too much shit when realistically its not fair him being targeted all the time.

I agree with Lady on this too, sure on a Saturday night is fine but midweek....for a professional sportsman thats disgusting behaviour, whether club captain or just a youth team player, I remember several of the first team squad have been "done" for drink driving etc and nights out on the town midweek....Shakes and Brown who as we know have since departed, Nicho and Pook, Williams etc.

For Pro sportsmen its wrong, not morally but professionally, if you need a drink then do it privately if you must dont air your drunken washing in public.

There seems to be about a 50-50 split of opinions today on this!

It's the same with the cricket, no one battered an eye lid when Flintoff celebrated the ashes, but if he goes out gets pissed and can't train, then he should change his drinking habits.

Flipping hell one blow out a week should be enough for a bloke of Williams' age.  Keep it to Saturdays.

I guess no-one wants to see their club captain pissed and making an arse of himself, although I'm also fairly sure that we've all done the same ourselves at one time or another.

However, I think people have to consider that they don't necessarily have all the relevant facts about the situation.

We do have a game on Saturday, but I'm pretty sure that AW will have already been told that he won't be in the squad for it. I don't know what the training regime is the day before a game. Do they train? Do they limit it to just the players that will be involved on matchday? I don't know, and I'd guess neither do most of you.

If he does have to train today then you'd hope the coaches would notice the state he's in and take the appropriate action. If anyone's worried that they won't notice then you might do better by e-mailing the club than bitching on here and hoping somebody notices.

If he isn't training today, and isn't playing tomorrow, then I can't see the problem. If one of us went out and got completely hammered and behaved like a bit of a tit on a Friday night, and I'm sure some of you do, we'd be a bit pissed off if we arrived at work on Monday morning to find that we were in the shit with the boss because one of our clients had seen us out and thought our behaviour was inappropriate.

And I don't buy the "he's a professional athlete we're just ordinary working blokes"  bollocks. He's a lower league clogger that probably earns about £75k a year. He's not John fucking Terry who earns 3 times that a week. His lifestyle's not that different to that of some of us.

And a load of us have got responsible jobs where people rely on us as well. Tans is a firefighter for fuck sake. Is anyone going to argue that him keeping himself fit and clear headed isn't more important than some bloody footballer? Does that mean you'll be slagging him off if you see him out getting hammered one night when he's not back on shift for 3 days?

This judgemental attitude just seems a bit hypocritical considering the tales of drunken debauchery that get posted on here week in week out. Ben wakes up one morning with no memory of the night before other than taking a dump in an alley, no clothes, no wallet and no 'phone and everyone's highly amused, but a footballer wobbles about a bit and talks bollocks loudly in a bar and it's a total disgrace.

Errrrrrrrrrr..........right. Rant over, I must go an put this soapbox away before someone trips over it. Cheesy

The worst offenders at present are Williams and Pook, Williams is always off his face (seen him about 5 times in the last month alone truely fooked)

The thing is when you have senior people like Sturrock who is rumoured to like a drink who blames the players, I still feel the discipline at this club is very minimal.  Anyone remember when Sturrock made a joke at the 125th bash about teh drink driving - he made a joke out of it.

Lumps that's not the point I'm trying to make.

It should be club policy that players should not be out on the lash from Monday to Friday, whether they're fit or injured, whether they are in the first team squad or not.

Being injured should not be a license to do what you want to do.  I don't think it's acceptable whilst the first team squad are at home eating pasta having an early night that fringe players and injured players should be up old town getting trollied.

I suppose if PS took the hard line and brought this rule in, the problem could be PS may not practice what he preaches.

Presumably then you'd be happy for your employer to impose restrictions on your social life along the same lines.

"I'm sorry Jan I know you have Friday off and aren't back at work until Monday but you can't go out on the lash on Thursday because other people in your team are working Friday and Saturday and it would be bad for team discipline"

Somehow I don't see it.
