I know that at the moment our season seems all but over. But ignoring present form there is still a chance that we can make the playoffs as I was just looking at the remaining fixtures and there are are still quite a few games that involve clubs that are both in the playoff picture: Bournemouth v Luton Brentford v Bristol City Brentford v Tranmere Hartlepool v Sheff Wed Bradford v Brentford Doncaster v Hartlepool Bradford v Bournemouth Bristol City v Doncaster Hull v Sheff Wed Luton v Brentford Bournemouth v Hartlepool Brentford v Hull Doncaster v Luton Bristol City v Sheff Wed Whilst I agree that our lack of consistency will probably mean that we miss out. There is still a good, okay, a mathematical chance of making up the ground albeit we need to win 4 or 5 out of our last 6 games. I am the eternal optimist

I admire you optimism even if it is badly placed! I don't for one second think we can make up 9 points lets alone win almost all our games!

Nought wrong with optimism, but at no stage of this season have we really looked like PO candidates....and all the indicators are that it wont change now.
We've probably put together no more than 5 or 6 decent halves and the odd good 20 minutes all season....certainly no convincing 90 minute showing.
The time is now right for a major overhaul of the squad.....

I think you are right Reg. It is just soooo bloody frustrating! Last seasons these players looked liked they had the potential to move us forward and i was confident coming into this season! Now look at us, having to almost start all over again! Anyway, not fussed about playoffs as it is my brothers stag weekend in Blackpool when the final is so now i don't have to worry about giong to Cardiff!

The thing is you don't mention these 4 matches
STFC v City STFC v Hull (a) STFC v Hudders (a) STFC v Tranmere
I'd be surprised to get more than 1 win out of all three, and that's being optimistic.

Think all we've got to look forward to for the rest of the season is the city game. No Play off's for us...

I accept all of the above, especially the bit about not looking like PO contenders and needing a major overhaul of the squad Reg, but you never know.
Our run in is tricky but at times this season (albeit very limited spells) we have played to almost our full potential and beaten the likes of City, Hull and Sheff Wed.
Although I think my optimism will die if we don't get 6 points from the next two games.

Indeed, you never know. I tend to be quite optimistic by nature but we aint going to do it and as Reg rightly says, we've never seriously looked like contenders.
Sadly, we have missed the Mooney of the early part of last season. FACT. That's not to say we shouldn't have let him go because I'm sure he would not have been the same player for us this season had he stayed. That is the main difference though IMO.

It's almost guranteed that we will now go on a decent run while the pressure is off only then to blow it against somone we should by rights have hammered.
I'd love just to see for a few games in a row a settled team playing 4-4-2 and see what develops from there.

I think it is still achieveable, even if unlikely. I have very nearly let it go, and I agree that anything less than 6 points from the next 2 games are vital.
But we know what this team CAN do.
We were unluck against Luton. We beat Hull. We beat Wednesday TWICE. We thrashed Hartlepool. We thrashed Brentford. We beat Bradford TWICE (when they were doing well) We beat City TWICE.
We are capable of the results, but you do lose confidence when you see we lost to Walsall, Tranmere, Chesterfield AND Huddersfield.

Yes we are very capable of individual results but we are just not capable of the consistancey needed to now get at least 5 wins from 6 games. It's over.

I agree its not likely, but there's always a chance! I'm almost certain we won't make it, but there is always hope.
