Just a post script to all my ranting - Marie, I'm not aiming any of my frustrations at you - and fair play to you for coming on here. I don't want you thinking I'm aiming any of this at you, it's all down to the club IMHO. Like people say here, you can't blame Brunel for what they did ... although there's a few things they could do to help Smiley

Living 60 miles away in north Hampshire, I'm out of range for Swindon local radio.  (The airwaves are usually polluted with match commentaries from Reading.)  That said, you can sometimes fluke reception for BBC Radio Swindon if you're out & about.

Not so Brunel FM.  In fact until the furore broke this summer, I didn't even realise there was a radio station called Brunel FM.

Obviously can't comment on the Brunel FM coverage, but for the games we drove to (instead of getting the train) we would always listen to the BBC Radio Swindon post match coverage which I thought was very good.

As far as i know no, but due at the end of September (could be wrong).

But its first year so i'm sure they aren't expecting them to be brilliant.

Fully agree with you - but if you were management of Brunel and you saw an opportunity to promote your new radio station within the area would you take the risk?

Yes, in a shot, especially if I knew STFC had only just struck up a deal with GWR about match sponsorship in the previous season, one in the eye for the competition and all that.  I worked for GWR for about 3 years when they were rapidly expanding.  They were never shy in their aims.

Anyone thought that Brunel FM, maybe trying to get out of the deal, perhaps they are not doing as well as they think.

Bushey is it true that Craig Rance has been sacked?  As he was useless.  I heard he bought completely the wrong equipment so when the commentator turned up for the first game of the season he didn't have a clue how to use it!

Talking about passion in a commentary, I once, can't for the life of me remember why, listended to Wycombe in a play off final (back when they were fresh in the league I think).  They scored their 4th I think close to the end (might have been extra time) securing promotion.  The commentator let out a yelp of delight before you heard a thud and then the patter of feet gettng fainter (can only assume he dropped the mike and decided to run off and celebrate).  About 20 seconds later you heard him come back and then shout loads of random celebratory words before continuing with commentary.  I did like that approach.

Like others have said fair play to Marie for coming on here, as she has suffered some criticism in the past (from me in particular).

Having listened to every game so far this season on Brunel and most games last season I can honestly say the pre match build up is non existent in comparison to BBC which was not exceptional but it was passable.

The in game commentary is very very poor, even with the many different commentators and guest commentators...like Tom...err err urm err umm Jones, the only professional one was Alan Mac who was very good, so often during games we get...oh and theres a goal, at first they dont say who scored it, they dont say the build up, often it has happened they dont even say which team scored it! thats amateur and very unprofessional.

They often chat about mundane stuff without giving us any idea whatsoever of how the game is progressing, whos playing well and more so what is happening on the pitch, it can take literally 1 minutes commentary to find out who scored and for which team, and confused scorers like the Brentford game when Adams scored...or is that Cox oh no it looks like it was Blackburn, WTF thats just plain terrible.

After match....well its again pretty non existant, and please stop playing adverts for taxis in Frome and Warminster, I know the partner station is 3TR for there but we dont need or want to listen to the adverts.

End of rant.

Absolutely awful.

No Friday night sports talk phone in- this was always a good half hour on the town and fans phone in.

Saturday- cant speak for the home game, but listened to the Hartlepool commentary and it was awful. No pre match build up (only music), no atmosphere during the game, and post match interviews terrible.

Also no fans phone in at the end or texts- i switch to BBC for post match interviews and fans opinions.

All in all- bring back the BBC, please

Just sent them my job application.. ooh im exited

Hi

My Name is Roger

A few times this season i have heard your commentry on Swindon Town and have been slightly disapointed. It sounds like the person talking is at a non league game as he does not seem to show any enthusiasm at all.I remember when we used to score on bbc wilts i swear we could could hear good old shaun rubbing little old ed hadwins balls for him.Now im not promoting some sort of gay sex festival live on air but just some enthusism and a bit of exitment which leads me on to the whole point of this email.

Im looking for a new job and feel that i could be the ideal candidate turn the swindon fans current opinions of Brunel Fm.I am a supporter first and foremost so can relate and while commentating also give encouragment.Below are a list of after game questions.

Paul are going to be leaving? None of this i dont comment shit either please yes or no?

Please let me know your thoughts as i have alot of offers at the moment just thought i would give you the chance to boost your dwindling figures

Thankyou

Living in Poxfordshire, I'm just one of many fans who can no longer receive the match commentaries, although I can receive the Poxford and Reading ones (lucky me!).

Although I don't have an opinion on the matchday broadcast itself, I have at least been impressed by Brunel's attempts to try to extend the coverage and also its efforts to ask for feedback and listen to its customers. This is perhaps something that a certain football club could do well to learn from.

I think if they could just hold off the ads and music before and after the game, just for an hour each side, it would grate a little less.
