Almost certainly. He must be one of the two players we signed. I wonder if there is another lurking around somewhere  :|

from bbc website july 2006 same bloke?? holloway obviously didn't rate him? :-

Almeida handed trial with Argyle
Plymouth manager Ian Holloway has taken Portuguese central defender Mauro Almeida on trial.
The 24-year-old, whose last club was Dutch outfit FC Zwolle, has flown out with the Pilgrims for a week-long training camp in Austria.

Holloway is keen to add a defender to his squad and also intends to give a trial to Aziz Ben Askar.

The French defender is known by Holloway as he managed him when he was boss at QPR in the 2001/02 season.

He gave a very assured performance. I was impressed.

But so did Blackburn. And with Ifil and Adjofee and the returning Williams what was the fucking point of wasting the wages.

New Board pressure?

Very possibly, but I'll reserve judgement until the press conference.

Thing is, I can't see him getting a game. So I just can't see the point even for the new regime to sign him. Not playing = no profit.

Back-up to the first team.

Williams has played his last game is my bet. He probably only got a new deal due to a clause in his contarct after 20 games etc.

PS probably had no choice and Williams being crocked knew he wouldn't get a deal elsewhere.

That's possible, I agree if we see williams again it'll only be in the JPT. just suprises me that we think we need another centre back when Blackburn &  Vincent  can cover.

Still maybe Luggy wants 2 specialist players for every position. I think I am too used to having a small/weak squad where 'makeshift' will do when the poo hit the fan.
