Rumours were...

1. When Noel was a roadie with the carpets they passed Oasis leisure centre on train and he saw the sign.

2.  Oasis was a shoe shop in Manchester where they used to buy their trainers. Quote Seahorses lyrics: "Oasis was a shop with shoes so hot it was sure to blow your mind".

I reckon they named themselves after that Midnight at the Oasis song and then realised that a Swindon leisure centre was cooler and so changed their story.
