Firstly, Smith is our no.1. Just look at the squad numbers. It's a FACT! So on that basis there is no need for a poll.

If you mean who is the better keeper, then I don't know. As far as I am concerned, Smith came into the side 10 months ago and has performed magnificantly ever since. He was outstanding at Northampton and clearly is in the side on merit.

Brez is obviously an excellent keeper also, but barring injury to Smith or a series of catostrophic errors, he is going to have to stay on the bench.

This is the first time in all my years of supporting that infuriating rag tag hit-or-miss, all-or-nothing bundle of frustration that is STFC, that we have had not one but TWO ridiculously high quality keepers. The highest praise I can give them is that they are both at least as good as Fraser Digby (a TRUE STFC legend).

I really can't separate them. For me, it's just a case of  'Smith has the shirt, it's his to lose'.

Some people nonetheless, seem to be convinced that Brez is better than Smith. I put this down to two things.

1. They are getting the words 'better' and 'taller' mixed up. Brez is definitely 'taller' than Smithy, I would not dispute that. I think they are getting confused though. When they say 'Oooh, Brez is better than Smith', they actually mean , 'Oooh, Brez is taller than Smith. It's an easy mistake to make.

2. A little more sinister. I think there is some serious 'man love' going on for Brez. Some of our regular - on the face of it 100% hetro - posters seem to have totally fallen for those Slavic, swarthy dark looks and icy blue eyes and have lost all objectivity on the subject.

To conclude, they are BOTH damned good keepers and you shouldn't say Brez is better just because you are physically attracted to him.

Thankyou.

P.S. I'm not anti bummers. It's your choice. I don't think any the less of you if you are. I'm cool with it. Just don't let it cloud your judgment.

I'll try and sum up why I went for Brez without trying to get beaten up by the Smith Love that is going around (works for both players it seems).

With Brezovan, I'm confident the forward will miss

With Smith, I'm confident he will save it

Clearly neither will happen all the time, it's just the way the play.  Brez is more your Schmeichel and Smith more your Given.  I just happen to think Brezovan, by being intimidating as well as pretty damned good at saving the ball, has the edge.

Against all that, I fully understand why Smith is getting picked and don't dispute that decision.

Phil Smith has done nothing wrong so far and deserves to be the current number one.

Smith is the current number one and has earned that right.

That's not to say he's any better than Brez though. I still can't decide between them.

The only major differences I really notice are that Smith kicks nothing like a town keeper, likes to kick the ball (rarely throws and is patient) and doesn't totally command the box.

Brez owns the box, no question, loves to make quick throws and his kicking is up their with Rhys "Row Z" Evans, although that's a touch harsh, as against Charlton he kicked well.

Don't get me wrong, Smith deserves to be number 1 and rightly so. But there's something about Brez that makes me feel more confident. It's probably the fact that he claims corners for fun and if i was a striker, i think he'd be quite a scary prospect to face.

Smith earned the number one shirt, It is up to Brez to earn it back. I see no reason why Smith should be dropped. Open and shut case really.

Bollocks.

You've just fallen for his Slavic, swarthy dark looks and icy blue eyes as per my original post.

There is absolutely no rational reason for anyone to say that Brezovan is better than Smith other than the fact that he 'looks the part' more than Smith does.

Smith has done NOTHING wrong and yet people still say Brez is better.  I have said it before, I will say it again and will continue to say it until I am blue in the face to anyone who says.

"Ooooh! Brez is the better keeper" or "Ooooh! I just have more confidence in Brez"

For anyone who has the attention span of a goldfish, just a reminder that I actually think Brez is a top keeper.

Thanks for your time.

As amusingly put as that is, i'm inclined to think you're on the money.

I don't think brez is better, his size and good looks just make me have more confidence in him.

People really do make a lot of judgements based on physical appearance. It happens in all walks of life and we all do it. Myself included, even though I have just been ridiculing it. It's sad but true. Shrug

We miss Brez on crosses, although as he's a bit rusty even he is prone to error (vs Charlton).

Still think with our wingers playing like they did against Luton (and Smith at right back) then Brez's throws could favour the style Sturrock likes - certainly Roberts could be good on the counter and Zaaboub on his day.
